KC and Sunshine Band Founder Held on Ohio Sex Rap
KC and the Sunshine Band co-founder Finch accused in Ohio of having sex with teenage boys

A music producer and co-founder of KC and the Sunshine Band responsible for such hits as "Shake Your Booty" and "Keep It Comin' Love" has acknowledged having sex with teenage boys, police said Wednesday.

Richard R. Finch, 56, was arrested Tuesday after a boy told authorities he'd had sexual contact with him at Finch's home in Newark, the Licking County sheriff's office said. The boy made the revelation last week.

Finch, while being interviewed at the sheriff's office, admitted he'd had sex with that boy and others ranging in age from 13 to 17, police said.

Finch, a former bass player for the band and a seven-time Grammy Award winner, was being held at the sheriff's office on $250,000 bond.

A message posted on the Web site of Richard Finch Productions Inc. said the allegations against the producer and song arranger were baseless.

"We will let due process happen through the legal system," it said, "and through that, we are sure Mr. Finch will be vindicated from these unfounded allegations."

No date had been set for Finch's arraignment, said Sgt. Kevin Biller, who wouldn't disclose the evidence that led to Finch's arrest or the possible charges against him.

Finch started KC and the Sunshine Band in the 1970s with Harry "KC" Casey, who was a record company stockroom clerk when they met. Their collaboration produced a slew of disco and funk hits including "Get Down Tonight," "That's the Way (I Like It)" and "I'm Your Boogie Man."

I'm actually surprised it wasn't KC. He's got a reputation for liking younger guys as well.

I'm probably the only one on here, but I enjoy KC's music.

still alive and still touring and still making a ton of money. He hits the casinos, hits Europe a lot and was recently on PBS doing one of those My Music specials.

The Sunshine Band is just hired guys. I think he only travels with one regular bandmate at this point.

Back in the 90s my sister was hanging out with one of KC's trumpet players. At that time KC was paying a group of guys retainer money but I understand he doesn't do that anymore and just hires union guys when he gets into town.

yeah, I noticed the "Licking" County thing, too.

I have the KC & Co's big hits on my iPhone. Hint to future downloaders - don't buy the long versions. There is such thing as too much of a good thing!

KC and the Sunshine Band Member Sentenced in Child Sex Case

Telling a judge he was embarrassed, disgusted and ashamed, a former member of KC and the Sunshine Band has been sentenced in Ohio to seven years in prison for sex charges involving teen boys.

Bassist and music producer Richard Finch entered pleas of no contest in Licking County Common Pleas Court on Monday to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and several other charges.

His voice breaking, the 56-year-old Finch apologized to a judge and the teens, saying he had little memory of the activities because he was impaired by alcohol.

The multiple Grammy Award winner was arrested in March after police said a boy reported that he'd had sexual contact with Finch at the man's home in Newark in central Ohio. They said Finch later admitted he'd had sexual contact with boys ranging in age from 13 to 17.

Finch told the judge he takes "responsibility 100 percent" for his conduct and that it was less than his character.

"I am very proud of the legacy in the music business that I have created, but sadly because of my stupidity while under the influence of alcohol, I will not be remembered for that contribution and, rather, I will be remembered for this unfortunate moment in time," Finch said. "It is my own fault and I will work hard to regain trust and respect from those I let down, including myself."

He removed his glasses and wiped away tears just before the judge handed down the sentence.

The Newark Advocate reports court records say Finch paid a 15-year-old boy $100 for sexual acts in a closet of his home where guitars are stored.

The records say that Finch had told teens "The music industry is all about sex and drugs" and "If you tell your parents, they're going to ... freak out, they are older and they are not in the business."

Finch formerly played bass for KC and the Sunshine Band, best known for 1970s disco and funk hits including "Shake Your Booty," "Get Down Tonight" and "That's the Way (I Like It)."

7 years sounds like a light sentence for what he did.
