I love that the clip keeps running after VH left the stage. The house music comes on, the roadies start walking around the stage, and they show the crowd starting to leave. Totally captures the concert feel.

One thing that jumps out at me watching this clip (which is incredible btw)is how the cameras focus on Dave almost the whole time. It wasnít until the very end of the song before Eddie gets any camera time and then it quickly returns to Dave.

After the split of the band, it was clear that the real staying factor of the band was Eddie Ė the mind blowing guitarist and song writer. I suppose some guys could have just enjoyed the success and yielded most of the spotlight to the lead singer, but not many.

Maybe, Iím reading too much into the short clip but 26 years later, itís clear that Eddie wasnít getting his due at that time. In many interviews following the addition of Hagar, Eddie made it clear that Van Halen now felt like a band of equals as opposed to everything revolving around one guy.

Ah the good ole days of Fuck me Suck me Rocknroll!
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

I think you are. Eddie got his due then, it's just that Dave was the lead singer and MTV freaking loved the guy.

I always felt Van Halen was viewed as a two-headed monster, Eddie and Dave.

Doesn't that make my point? I agree that back then everyone who knew rock, knew Eddie was king. But it seemed that with the commercial success of 1984, Dave became the face of the band in the mainstream. In this footage, I can see the focus on Dave to the point that the rest of the band are an afterthought (as far as MTV was concerned).

I have that bootleg, and your right Dave had so much confidence almost like he thought he ruled the world and that was the bottom line.
