Default Michael Anthony Shares his favorite Songs.

    http://www.aolradioblog.com/2010/03/...avorite-songs/

Bass Player for rock supergroup Chickenfoot Michael Anthony is this week's guest blogger for AOL Radio, sharing his favorite songs. Also former member of rock outfit Van Halen, Anthony shows a strong influence on classic rock and heavy metal -- especially tracks that rock walking bass lines and trills. Featuring Hendrix, Cream, Deep Purple and more, here are Anthony's favorite tracks.

These are favorite songs of mine that have influenced me when I started playing music.

It isn't so surprising that Mike would choose a Montrose song. It *would* be surprising if Ed ever compiled such a list and chose a Montrose song as number one.

    Solid list.

EVH's list would be very similar, with The Who, Led Zep, Cream, etc.

So? Van Halen covered Montrose back in the day. What's the big deal?

Since some of us probably won't get a chance to listen to this, could someone post the highlights of comments from Mike and tell us his pics?

jeez guys don't get so defensive. It's not a big deal nor should it be a point of contention that his favourite song is a Montrose song...but it is, I don't know...strange in a sense. It's not a Beatles song, not the Stones, not CCR, not Zep, not the Who, but Montrose? My huh? reaction would be the same if he listed a song by Styx or Damn Yankees or off David Lee Roth's first record or Up With People or whatever. It's just not real often you hear someone say "dude, Montrose, wrote my favourite song EVER!"
    Stay out of it, dude.

As you know, Michael's love for Sammy colors everything he does.

Mike knows where his bread is buttered. lol

Seriously though that pick may actually shine a little light on things. The song is great and so is that album. I heard it first in the late 80's and it came out what..in early mid 70's? I imagine rock fans really thought it was kick ass back then. Maybe a young MA was really inspired by the band and not only liked it but really dug Sam's voice..So for Mike.. friendship and working partnership aside playing with Sam may be a little like if one of us who are musicians were playing with an artist that inspired us when we were young and all that. Going from hoping you could reach that success to actually playing with someone who inspired you. So that may also be why it rates so high for him. Like a personal thing not so much that he thinks it's the greatest song written.

I'm not so much surprised over his #1 pick as I am his picks over all. Nothing wrong with them but they are all pretty much straight ahead rock and I though Mike had Jazz influences and all types of stuff.

really? I never much got that impression from him. I'd have been a bit surprised if he said Coltrane and Jaco were among his favourites. He always struck me as a straight ahead rock guy.

Truly. I'm not going to hunt down old interviews at this moment but when VH found Mike besides playing in Snake I thought it was mentioned he was into jazz and stuff other than just straight ahead rock. I just thought I'd see a little more musical diversity in his list. It's not a negative it is what it is, just saying.

The first Montrose album was nails!

I think Mike does like jazz to an extent because he was a trumpet player and i think his dad was in a big band. I think he just prefers straight ahead rock because that is what moves him. I remember him saying that he liked riding that one note with all his fillings falling out! That was rock and roll!
