    Rudeness At The Cinema

What would be the course of action YOU would take, or have taken, at the cinema, when dealing with rude, obnoxious behavior? Rude, obnoxious behavior, in this case, being defined as: excess or loud talking during the feature, cell phone ringing/conversation, the ceremonial kicking of your backseat or the use of your seat as a foot rest, texting, ect.

Swift, blinding violence, shushing, politely asking the party or parties involved to quiet down, or do you just stay home and say "fuck the cinema, it's not worth it" and wait for the DVD?

I read an NPR article today about this topic and I realized that I have only gone to the cinema a handful of times in the last few years because of the behavior of others.

    Thoughts?

When we went to see avatar, there were a group of teenagers...maybe early twenties...not sure...anyways they came in very loud and one in particular made a point of trying to say something funny during every break between ad's. Loud. Hoping desperately for a laugh from the chicks that were with them. Nobody thought it was funny. I loudly told him that after his next fail. He did finally shut up.

Public embarrassment usually does the trick. You just need to be ready for them if they're punchy, which can happen.

I hardly go anymore but the last time I did someone was kicking my seat quite a bit. After a few minutes of it I swung around pretty pissed off. Turns out it was a 10 year old girl there fidgeting and kicking my chair and it was pretty accidental (I had no idea it was a kid). Her dad thought I was going to lose it and started apologizing profusely. I felt stupid going off like I did. My solution lately is to wait 4 weeks and go when there are like 20 people in the whole theater.

Last movie I went to see at a theater was Panic Room. The movie was partly the reason for not returning, the remainder can be blamed upon this topic, and the fact that my living room is much more comfortable.

I've been trying to remember the last movie I went to and I keep coming up with The Day After from 2004. I can see how cell phones, texting, and BS like that would be a thousand times worse nowadays.

I can't say I've ever had major issues with D-bags around me.

I don't really go to movies any more for these very reasons. People have gotten worse over the years in the cinemas.
It is to the point that, if I can't enjoy it while i'm there because of inconsiderate pricks, then why bother paying to get in to see it. I'll wait for the DVD or hell, even the movie channels.

The last timei can remember this happening was sometime a summer or two ago. All I did was turn around and stare without saying a word. It worked.

I get your point, if he was just not funny, there's nothing funnier than to call him on it. As far as theatre etiquette, though, I'd say the ads/previews are fair game for comments/chatter. But when the actual film starts, STFU.

I had one guy go off when I was chatting during the previews. He was all "I came to see a movie, not listen to you talk." I just said, "Well, your movie is about to begin and you're the one talking now." And he shut up.

I hear what you're saying totally about preview time. I just saw a trend developing I didn't want to take a chance on for 3 hours.

In the age of HD and blue-ray, I can wait a few months to see almost anything now.

Why put up with the bs.

I could have been a little nicer. I whipped around like I was going to go postal on some guy. My kid's about that age and I could see him doing something like that. No biggie.

I go to a movie about every 4-6 years due to the idiots that sit around me. I just dont find it to be enjoyable. Movies come out on DVD so quick now why do I want to put my self through the aggrivation of sitting in front of some kid kicking my chair or someone talking on there phone.

I was totally joking about the age man. They were probably 16-18 and being jackasses. If I remember correctly, it may have been at Tropic Thunder.
