Saved a Kramer I never really liked

I always thought those JK (Japanese Kramers) looked cool because they had some cool paint jobs. So about 5 years ago I bought a JK Purple Burst for about $400 from a guy who sells Kramers in Japan. It looked cool, but it never really played well, the neck was weird, and in the end I really didn't like the reverse headstock. I never really ever played it. Here is a pic of it, mine is on the left.

Fast foward to 2008. I sold it on here (I forgot who bought it now), and in shipping it, the headstock snapped. So I got it sent back to me, and of course I was stuck with this thing and it just sat for two years. Well today I was bored, it was raining out, and I felt like fucking with it, and thought, "I wonder if this old beak Kramer neck I have lying around will fit it?" Well it fit perfect, didn't have to redrill, nothing. So then I had a black OFR hanging around I have been looking to use on something, so I threw it on too. Threw on some strings, and the thing plays great now, and it even sounds better too. It's just darker sounding now, maybe it's the rosewood neck. Anyhow it looks a billion times better now I think...I might actually play it more than once every 5 years. So I brought a dead guitar back from the grave. Just need to block it so I can put a D-tuna on it.

I should never have gotten one with a maple neck, it never looked good, and neither did the reverse headstock. Well here it is now. I even switched the volume knob, I like Strat knobs, not those dome things.

Hey Brett, did Japan also make the Striker and Focus, or where those American made?

Just wondering, because back in the 80's I remember people either loving the Striker or hating them. I know Kramer had the Striker on the low end price, but I've heard ppl say they weren't half bad for being cheap.

The JK models are different than the cheap Strykers, those are basically shit guitars. Some of the 80's Focus guitars are decent. However, the JK's are higher quality models ONLY made for the Japanese market, and with a lot of parts by ESP. They are not crappy guitars made with inferior parts like Strykers were. Shit I think some Strykers were plywood. If you can get find a JK model, you're getting a good guitar.

I sold a blue '85 Pacer Imperial I had last year, but I still have my custom paint splatter '84 Imperial. It's been my main axe for years, old reliable. Recorded 90% of our CD with it.

they were plywood. I have a focus and it plays up there with the best of them. My pacer is the best guitar I have ever heard and played.

I really wish I had gotten aboard the Kramer Train back in the 80's. I never really got into them, however I had a buddy that had a beautiful Pacer and it played like butta! It was an exact copy of the Pacer Ed did the black and white photo shoot with.

He was in between gigs and someone broke into his truck and stole it.

Was the Ripley ever mass produced and any of you guys had the pleasure of playing/owing one?

You and your pink guitars dude! lol

Seriously though...thats an unusual Kramer man. Kramers for the style, hard rock are very cool guitars if all set up right etc. I think you should be proud to have something so unique in your collection. The beak totally rocks it. The reverse Kramer head stocks are about as cool as that tall blond guy in stix....haha.

    Hey Tommy!

    Just happened to see this.

    Yes i have a Ripley.
It's black & looks just like the one Eddie's holding on the guitar for the practicing musician magazine cover.

Got it at a pawn shop in 1995 for $350.00
Ive always wondered how many there were because it's serial # is 0005 and it's the only one ive ever seen.

Used to record with it 15 years ago but haven't since, i'll take it to the studio next week and record something with it and post it for u guys.

It does look stupid in 2010.
I wish it was maple and standard headstock. But hey, it was $400.
