    Default The Rasta Guitar?

Found this on a Randy forum. Dweezil playing Crazy Train with Tenacious D. Looks to be the Rasta. Heard a rumor that he actually is in possession of it and was wondering if its the real thing.

At least one of Ed's guitars is getting played.

LOL! AWESOME! The Dweez rules. Not to mention Joe Travers on drums - that guy is one of the most underrated stickmen in the world.

And, yes, Dweezil does own the Rasta. It's the real deal. Cool he pulled it out of retirement.

Is the Rasta the only EVH guitar that's 'out'?

If you think about it, other than Ed giving a way some of his personal EBMMs and Wolfgangs over the years, are any of his other really iconic main guitars owned by anyone but him? I think this is the only one I've seen... really cool.

The 'Bumblebee' (or VH II) guitar is buried with Dimebag. Other than that, I think Ed still has all the rest in his posession.

Right, but obviously that one is as good as gone -- it will never be played again.

So ya... it's really rare to see someone other than Ed (or even to see Ed himself anymore) playing one of his iconic guitars.

I'm going to guess most of Ed's "less than famous" guitars are now just a pile of parts.
That would be my guess anyway.

it must be the real deal, I remember reading a while ago that Ed gave it to Dweez
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and Ive got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

Oh,and ladies and gentlemen, it absolutely is the real deal! And as a matter of fact, I've been corresponding with Dweezil about it!

The guitar has an amazing history:
It started out as the "Unchained" with the neck that's on the Franky today...

It was repainted by Ed into the "Rasta" with the same neck still attached...

It was given to Dweezil as a gift by Ed in this state...

    ...Dweezil, in turn, restored it...

You would think that's more than enough, right? But guess what? There's more!
Turns out the neck that's affixed to it today is non-other than the original black and yellow Charvel VH II neck!!!

The combined history on that guitar is incredible!

Believe it or not, Dweezil was not aware of the guitar's complete history until yesterday!
    -Painted twice by EVH
    -Used on two world tours
-Original Charvel VH II neck which was also used on the "Franky"...

    ... and the "Snake"!!!...

This is from Dweezil's gear page on his website.

    http://www.dweezilzappaworld.com/articles/category/gear

This guitar is one of my personal favorites. I remember the first time I ever saw the guitar was in a photo from Life Magazine. They followed Edward on the road around the time of the Fair Warning and Diver Down tours. That is my favorite Van Halen album by the way. Anyhow, as you may or may not know Edward built a lot of his own guitars. He was backstage with a bunch of them and this one kind of in the middle as I vaguely recall. It really stood out to me. (If anyone has that photo please post it!) It was the only guitar he had that had any green on it. I like green so it stuck in my head for years. A decade later I went to Edward's 5150 recording studio for a recording session. He played a few amazing solos on my as yet unfinished magnum opus - What The Hell Was I Thinking? (Started working on it in the early 90's so it's soon to be 20 years in the making)

Anyway the "Rasta" guitar - That's what Edward called it - He also referred to it as UBAB - was sitting in the corner. The neck was off. I said, "Hey that's the guitar from Life Magazine" and he replied, "Oh yeah, I hate that guitar... it's too heavy. Do you want it?" "Yes please" was my immediate response. It came replete with actual dried vomit in the neck joint and a little left on the guitar as well. It's still there...BRUTAL Cologna...

LOL! AWESOME! I was gonna state FOR FACT that it was, indeed, the real deal, as as I'm really good friends with Bryan Beller, who, is in turn, really good friends with Joe Travers, the drummer in the vid. I've actually played softball on Sundays with Dweez & Co. but wasn't aware at the time that Ed gave the Rasta to him. But I didn't doubt it for a second...

    Thanks, jimi!
