Default Stupid Question of the Day

How does a D-Tuna actually work?

Does it just Drop D the E string, I am confused as to what it does.

Thanks, and be gentle on my ignorance of the subject matter!
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Preferred pronouns: he/him/his

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

yes, it sits over the screw that fits into the back of the saddle on a floyd rose, where normally the tuner on the floyd pushes up and down on the screw instead it pushes on the d-tuna which has a 'step' on it, so when its pulled out the saddle moves up and drops the pitch...i hope you make sense of this, i was as layman as i could be.

I've got my own ignorant question about the D-Tuna...I would like to put one back on my Wolfgang EXP...how hard is it to install and do you have to remove the E string to do so?

The D-tuna actually puts a small tuna fish below your bridge (hence the name "D tuna"). When you flip the switch, the tuna fish gets a jolt of electricity, which causes it to let out a scream in a pitch that is a full step lower than whatever note your E string is playing. (The scream is inaudible to the human ear, but your pickups are sensitive enough to hear it.)

The only problem I have had with this unit is when my tuna fish dies. My local fish store doesn't usually stock them for some reason!

yes, because you have to remove the screw that holds the string in the saddle, my suggestion would be to replace it when you next change strings, while you're at it, do a full set up.

    I love the d-tuna.
Ive put them on many of my guitars but think i only have 2 guitars with d-tunas attached right now.

They are pretty easy to attach and when set up right work great!

Im thinking of putting one on my GWM 5150 but afraid it would touch & wear out the #1 sticker.

Like Tommywho sez- do an entire setup, it just will be better. If paying a pro to do it, make certain s/he knows what the hell they are doing. I had a D-tuna that was an ornament on a custom-bodied guitar, it never did work right

I will be blunt here- I wish I could have played a guitar I liked with a D-tuna. On the occasion I play a drop D (which is rare, I admit), I play it on a Les Paul, preferrably one I didn't burn

I love my D-Tuna as well, once I read the thread on this board to figure out how to install it that is. It's a great product, and comes in very handy for me. I also have a question, but about something else. Would these fit on a Strat body? It says they fit all split shaft pots, but I don't know what that is.

I would say that it is a very strong possibility that those knobs would fit your pots.

Split-shaft pots: these are split down the middle and not solid. Solid pots require a set-screwfor knobs to fit onto them. 9 out of 10 guitars use split shaft knobs.

its dead easy to check...lever off your knobs (i use a spoon, with a rag on the guitars body to protect the finish) you will then see the shaft of your pot, if it's solid, then they wont fit, if they are split down the middle, then yes they will.
