    Default EVH Guitar Strings

Anyone tried the EVH guitar stings that are for sale at the Van Halen Store.com? I was wondering if they are worth giving a shot.

I'd imagine they're probably made by Fender, D'Addario or someone and just repackaged with the EvH logo and stripes.

Kind of like how his 5150 strings when he was with Peavey were repackaged GHS Boomers.

The package is worth collecting if your into that stuff. Otherwise, they're just strings.

The only set of EVH strings that I own has the same copper/tan inner packaging as D'Addario. I'm guessing they're the same?

Ron, is that a pic of you in that Lips Kudlow looking Avatar? Too, funny!

Fender's new string packaging reminds me of D'Addario. The non-bullet (at least that is what I have seen so far) ball ends are color-coated now and in a plastic sealed bag all wrapped together.

I know that Fender makes (made?) their strings in Mexico, but now I wonder if they are farming them out?

I was told by a string rep that all non-coated strings are made in one of two factories period. I'm not sure if this is the case or not and have never espoused it as fact.

Anyone have any real insight? The way I was told was that if you bought strings, be they Markley, GHS, Daddario, Ernie Ball, acoustic, electric etc they were all made in one of two factories. DR was the only exception in the non-coated category.
    Stay out of it, dude.

I've also heard that many brands of strings are manufactured in the same factories. Design and procedure is the work of the brand, but the actual manufacturing is done by the same facility.

i still have a bunch of the 5150 strings i bought in 1988.
some of them say kramer and some say ernie ball but i remember hearing that they were made by ghs.

i used to love them, never tried the wolfgang strings and have yet to try the evh ones.

i used to work at a guitar repair shop in berkeley and heard that there are or were at the time only 1 or 2 places where guitar strings are made.

    brands just repackage them.

Guy who runs this site says there are 32 string manufacturers in the U.S. and that he has visited over half of them: http://professorstring.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=28

Strerling Ball told the story about the strings. He said Kramer got royalties for those strings (EB 5150) because it was part of the contract Ed had with them. That is why the early packs had a Kramer logo on the bottom back. Kramer kept all of the royalties from Ed on the strings and that is what dissolved the relationship with Kramer. Ed hit the roof when he found out about that. This is what led to him getting his guitar built by EBMM as well.
