^ ^ That computer generated thing is NOT a Russian Sukhoi Pak-Fa T-50. In their dreams.

This is. Here's the maiden flight.

    And Russia's dreamin'. It's literally a shell of a 5th generation fighter.

The NPO Saturn company said in a statement that the jet has new engines, but military analysts suggested that they were a slightly modernized version of the Soviet-era engine powering the Su-27 family of fighters.

"It's a humbug," said independent military analyst Pavel Felgenhauer . "It's just a prototype lacking new engines and a new radar. It takes new materials to build a fifth-generation fighter, and Russia lacks them."

Russian military analysts were also skeptical, pointing at a history of delays in the program and other Russian weapons projects.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin hailed the flight as a "big step forward," but admitted that "a lot remains to be done in terms of engines and armament."

its beenn the works for a while now, the russians have had several technology demonstrators out there, testing various parts for this aircraft...mainly the SU-37(terminator) and SU-47(Berkut)...this aircraft just represents an amalgamation of both. the whole design theory surrounding stealth aircraft, with regards to the angles of the various surfaces, is a russian idea anyway, the Americans just put it into practice first, and i highly doubt Russia can afford to produce these aircraft in sufficient numbers to be a threat.
that being said, i would still bet my last £ that it would outfly and out manouvre the F-22, cost less and be somewhat more simplified ad yet still as effective in the hands of a well trained pilot.

Unfortunately Patrick Swayze passed away so we can't use the Wolverines any more to protect the country

I am sure the Raptor is a better plane. Heck the Eagle probably is still a better fighter.

Really? The visuall characteristics of this plane are just one area where it is apparent that the Russians are well behind our technology. A big part of the stealth effectiveness is the avionics and powerplant platforms that they use. An area where Russia has lagged for years.

If it's cheaper, there is certainly a reason for that. The Skunk works (Lockheed Martin) stumbled upon stealth characteristics with the SR-71, and yes it was with Russian math.

If anyone is interested a must read is "Skunk Works" by Ben Rich who succeeded Kelly Johnson. It's a fascinating book for anyone who likes the U-2, SR-71, stealth fighters etc.

Russian aerospace is very similiar to Microsoft, they copy other people's ideas only to have an outdated product that really doesn't work.

Oh yeah, I have friends who fly and work on the F-22. I wouldn't bet against the Raptor on any day.

I wonder what kind of new radar technology we have developed? I wonder if we might have developed a fancy, new radar technology that could pick up so called "stealth fighters".

I live pretty close to Wright Patterson AFB and they are always building new kinds of technologies for the air force. Let 'em build their stealth fighters. I bet we are still a few steps ahead in the game.

I think that's a good guess. Our country has been active in stealth technology since the 1970's, if not before. Im sure we've had folks working on that.

A good story from "Skunk Works" was when they applied Stealth technology to a ship for the navy. They could always find where the ship was in the ocean. This was because the stealth was too good. The waves naturally produced a radar return, the spot where the ship was produced no returns, thus they knew where it was.

Again, things our country has had Decades to play around with.

Consensus is that this type of technology is USELESS for the current world situation. You don't need stealth in Afghanistan. It's a total cold war throwback. That's why production of the raptor was stopped and everyone wants to forget about it. That kind of money would be best spent elsewhere. Total waste, both in the US and Russia.
