That is a really nice top.

Does anyone know if Ernie Ball would cover the problem of the paint fading on the EVH Music Man guitars under warranty? If they were to re-finish the guitar, does that take away from its value?

musicman will not refinish tops anymore. i would find a qualified person if your keeping it for yourself. i am sure it would adjust the value some not really hurt it. if you where gonna keep the guitar i would find someone with a very very high recommendation and get it redone.

I never got the full story, but for a while Ernie Ball was refinishing some of the faded EVH EBMM guitars. They won't anymore, however. Purple and black were notorious for fading into that snotty-green color. I'm not much of a guitar collector, but it's my understanding most collectors place a lot of value on a guitar having its original finish, even if that finish is faded. If EBMM did the refinish, that would probably be considered "official" and okay. Anyone else does the refinishing and I could see that taking away value in the mind of a collector. Personally, if I ended up with one of those not-even-purple-anymore EBMMs, I'd do the refin.

Yeah, I think so. It's a production problem, so I can't see it affecting the value as long as you were to keep the documentation that EBMM or a sub did the work. I mean some of those purple ones just degraded to a green/silver color. That was one of my favorite colors on the EBMM quilts too.

I have to disagree a refin is a refin even if EBMM did it. The only thing I could say about that is how could it be proven it was a refin if EBMM did it unless they keep a record.

It just makes sense though, say you have a 63 Strat in pretty decent shape, if you sent it to Fender and they did a refin you can bet 10 grand is coming off the price. In the Bluebook of guitars it states a refin will cut the price of a guitar in half to leave it no matter how reliced it is. Maybe I will drop Geoff Knapp a line as he has two EBMM EVHs thar were as he put it refurbished. He said they stopped doing it because guys were asking to have them painted Green or Gold which we all know the deal there but he does not say if they ever complied with doing that. But he also said it did not mean that another place would not do it.

There is this Asian guy that is selling 4 EBMM EVHs that are as new looking as the day they were made, a purple, blue, red and amber. The only thing is Brett Gila is looking to make a nice purchase on something because he has 6 of his guitars up for sale and that is not like him.lol Well 3 of them are EVHs that he has had up for 60 days and he is asking $3,850 so that Asian guy followed suit and has his listed the same as before Brett listed I saw two just about mint ones go for $1,950 the cheapest I have seen in ages.

well got the guitar a few days ago. pulled it out and wow. i have played it one night and its put up for good. this thing is beyond mint. not only is it a very rare cololr its also a transition or new old stock. it has the evh type neck plate and the serial starts with a 8 instead of g. the floyd is the evh floyd with the offset saddles. very rare axis indeed. it played and sounded nice but this one is for looks lol. the neck wasnt as pretty as my others but hell you cant get everything can ya lol.

I think original EVH owners might even be shocked to know that Ernie ball will NOT do any replacement necks for them either ! NO replacement necks. NO decals. NO noth'n. If you break your neck in any way you are screwed ! They have passed the buck by saying ED's legal team won't let them do it. Whatever the reason is it is not good enough. It was poor business in the first place. With no real contract. It left it open for both parties to weazel their way out of it. This is why I don't believe in signature guitars, limited editions , etc... They all sound good in the beginning, but all you are really buying into is a future problem. It ends up being their way, not the customers way wich is what funded the sales in the first place. On the subject of the faded finishes, they did not use a UV resistent dye.
