    Default VH is Irrelevant

This really isnít thread worthy but I think I had one of those moments of enlightenment. That moment where you never look at a subject the same way.

It happened while watching old VH clips on Youtube. I realized that Van Halen is irrelevant. They are a bunch of old guys who used to be a band through 1985. Itís nice to see them playing together but considering that they havenít done anything relevant in over 25 years, who cares? Whatís BTO doing lately? Who cares? Are the Rolling Stones going to ever make another album? Who cares? Do you think Ozzy or Rony will do another reunion concert with Sabbath? Who cares?

1996 was VHís last chance to stay relevant through today. Had they continued on with Dave you could ask, whatís VH been up to? Well, amazingly they are chugging along, putting out 4 very decent albums since the Hagar years. As it stands, the current form of VH4 seems about as interesting as The Police reunion tour. Even Blondieís reunion of a decade ago included new music. Maybe they realized that without new music a reunion tour wouldnít cut it with their fans. Even a guy like Springsteen today makes VH ďsort ofĒ reunion look like a Siegfried and Roy comeback.

Even if they manage to scrape together an album (which I highly doubt), I think itís too late to ever live up to what I think Dave visualized and what he verbalized at the reunion press conference. Too many years have passed and the continuity has been lost. I think the only reason Van Hagar survived into the grunge era was continuity Ė too long a break would have doomed them as well.

Now that I figured this out, Iím a bit sad but so much more content.

    "Welcome to the party, pal."
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, ďTokyo Dome In Concert,Ē is available for purchase, and itís super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

I many ways they are not relevant, but I'm not agreeing with the whole snubbing of the Hagar years. I say they were relevant up until 1998 or so. Now, just reunion tours.

    The Conan/Jay thread is better.

Closing this up. I'm sure you'll find an existing thread to attach these thoughts to, Blind.
