    Default EVH Frankenstein Humbucker Pickup???

Has anyone purchased/tried the EVH Frankenstein humbucker pickup? If so what did you think? How does it sound? Is it worth the dough?

Got one and love it. Great harmonics and clarity, aggressive sounding, a bit compressed but not too much. A great rock pickup that would work well with a variety of crunchy and high gain amps. Can't go wrong with it really if you are looking to play classic rock and hard rock. Is it worth the money? To me yes, to others probably not. Some people will pay $3000 for a nice guitar, others won't, so that's a tough call. This pickup and the SD 78 are my two favourite pickups right now.

Hate the fact that you have to switch baseplates to use in a replica but love the tone. Sounds similar to the SD 78 but has a distintive GROWL as you turn-up the volume!

from what i've heard the legs are too short to mount the pup direct to the body for a frankie replica, not a problem if you are fitting it to a scratchplate or in a pickup ring.

I've bought both the relic and unrelic version. I haven't finished my relic Frankenstein yet, so I don't know for sure how the relic sounds. The unrelic version, we put into a factory finish Franky for my son, it sounds great! The baseplate legs are shorter on the unrelic version, which makes sense, the only reason you might want to use a relic version is for a relic Franky...lol.

For those of you living in the GTA, the Brampton Long and McQuade has one in stock for $199, non-relic. Seems a bit expensive but may not be once you factor in the exchange, shipping and any duties. I have a relic and I wasn't aware that the legs were shorter on the non-relic. Good to know.

I had a post somewhere on here with how it sounds. I compared it with the Bareknuckle VH II I have in another guitar.

See if I can find it.
