    Default Ear problems

    Hey all.
Some of you may remember a thread I started last year about an ongoing, worsening problem I was experiencing with my hearing. Anyway, after worsening bouts of this condition which included a terrible roaring in the ear, and a problem where the pitch in my right ear was different from my left, and the sound was garbled I went in for a battery of tests. It turned out that one on the small bones in my inner ear had developed an abnormal B.B. sized amount of calcification, kind of like a bone spur. it was not allowing the proper transmission of vibrations from the ear drum, and the pitch in one ear was like a few semitones lower than the other and the sound of blood flow through the ear is what caused the roar. Some days were worse than others with the roaring noise; like a jet parked outside, but others came with headaches and completely sleepness nights due to the roaring in the ear.

Anyway, I went in for surgery, and am happy to report that aside from some ringing which should eventually subside, it's much better now. I have no real evidence as to what caused this. I asked my surgeon if loud environments could be a factor, and he said that there could be some contributing factor there because of the increased pressures caused by the growth, but he felt that it may be more of a heredity thing. (My grandfather lost his hearing around 37 yrs. of age).
At any rate, I just wanted to take the time to thank all of you, and especially Chef Craig for your well wishes at the time of my post. It meant alot. I had a friend who lost the hearing in his left ear to a brain tumour, and he had similar symptoms so I was a little freaked out. Just a friendly word of advice though even though you've heard it ad- nauseum.....Protect your ears! If you have anything weird going on, get it checked out. If I had left my situation much longer, I would have had permanent damage.

    Take care guys!

Good for you, glad you're on the mend. You're another example of why we should all have an annual ear exam. Just to be safe and catch any problems early.

Thanks guys. Yes, doing really well. Amazing what they can do with surgery now. Aside from an overnight stay in the hospital and some really good painkillers, I feel great. It's amazing to me how much your ears also affect your day to day. I felt really foggy, and just not with it. Great improvement.
