    More Local NewsSAN DIEGO (AP)

An earthquake has shaken California's border with Mexico.

Preliminary information from the California Integrated Seismic Network says the 10:48 a.m. Wednesday quake was magnitude 5.9 and was centered about 100 miles east of San Diego, about 20 miles southeast of the Mexican city of Mexicali.

Buildings briefly swayed in San Diego.

San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Anthony Ray says there have been no reports of damage or injury.

The automated seismic network reported a magnitude-4.9 aftershock at 10:53 a.m.

That is the fourth or fifth one over 4.5 in that area in two and a half years.

I didn't feel the one yesterday, but I heard my buds doin construction on towers in downtown S.D. felt the entire building shaking.. I dealt w/ that on a jobsite 2 years ago when the Chico quake hit & I was in Santa Ana on the roof of a twin 26-story building... The crane that was taking down sections of the manlift swayed so much, it almost hit the building.. I was in the mechanical room on a 10' ladder & my black rasta co-worker turned white... We made it down to ground level in less than 5 minutes by taking the stairs!!! NOBODY wanted to go back in, but we had to make sure the riser pipes didn't burst...sucked to be me that day...
I'm takin' whiskey to the party tonite & I'm lookin' for somebody to squeeze

Was at my girlfriend's place yesterday morning on her PC and felt a very odd and very very subtle swaying sensation that I just chalked up to a random dizzy spell as I sat in the chair. I really gave it no further thought until I read this story, and remembering it was about quarter to 11am when I felt myself sway a bit.

My GF lives in Hemet......roughly 85 miles away.

the good thing is it sounds like it was nothing serious. Those light tremors are supposedly good because it eases the pressure of a big quake.

    No.

No they do not. There is no way we can even tell. This area has been more of a precursor zone that signals more large quakes as far north as eastern Nevada. Those first 6.5 quakes of 2007 ushered in a new active phase in the faults of southern California. They have always been answered by quakes of equal or larger impact in Nevada and along the California/Nevada border.

If you look at the latitude of this quake you will see three of similar magnatude within a few degrees, the most recent being in Tajikastan.

The thing that should scare everyone in British Columbia is the total lack of movement off of their coast compared to everywhere else in the Ring of Fire. That is the only place geologists can say for sure that there is pressure building up.

I'm so so sorry. Not that you have a girlfriend, that's great, but that she lives in Hemet. My (now deceased) older brother was from Hemet, and it is a fucking cesspool (cultural, aesthetic, et. al.) *shudder*

"You may recognize some of these chemicals. Let's start with cyanide...The one the Aum Shinrikyo cult attempted to use to commit mass murder in a Tokyo subway in May 1995...The same cyanide produced routinely--1.4 million tons per year--for use in the production of plastics, adhesives, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and so on. It seems that those who put small amounts of cyanide in subways are terrorists. But those who produce it in mass quantities and contaminate broad reaches of soil, water, and air, killing countless living beings, are not terrorists, but rather capitalists, and are counted among the finest and most powerful people on the planet."
