    Default Helix

I just saw a thread on Krokus, which for some reason made me think of Helix. Here's a tune that I always liked better than "Heavy Metal Love":

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving is not for you"

"Be careful what you wish for because you just might lose what you already have"

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

These guys had a good run in Canada in the 80's, and singer Brian Vollmer continues to use the name and play the bar and summer concert circuit across the country.
I believe there was even an album of new stuff recently, though i would imagine the quality is a bit suspect.

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

This next part could really confuse things. Let's stay focused. #asis

Accept, Helix and Keel was my very first concert, I think it was '84 or '85. I don't remember much about the music of Helix, but I remember one of the guitarists had a broken leg or something, and sat on a stool for the whole show.

And Udo wore his sleeveless camo t-shirt.

And we had The Right To Rock, dammit!

Helix plays here in Moncton about every year or so. Seen em open for Alice Cooper in Saint John in 2006, pretty good live band. Volmer is a douche though, met him after their set and he was a total loser. Funny story actually...

A customer of mine was living in Ontario about ten years ago, and he and his buddies ordered a pizza from a place owned by Brian Volmer. Volmer's driver was sick or something, and the lead singer of Helix delivered it right to their door Volmer was apparently less than thrilled; especially when one of the guys asked "hey, aren't you that guy from Helix?"

Didn't Michael J. Fox have a band in high school that was also named Helix?

I love the Helix album No Rest For The Wicked. I actually transferred the cassette to CD so I could put it on my iPod. I think Back For Another Taste was pretty decent too. They have a lot of inconsistency and have had about 20 members over the years.

Good time, party band. Probably would get the vote as the Canadian band most inspired by VH.

Always liked this tune (and video for the T&A). Gotta miss the 80's! The singer does a stunt at 2:48 in that's pretty impressive. Very DLR

As far as tunes, I thought they did a good job on this cover.

'The Storm' was a good Whitesnake-esque tune for them. Thought they should've written more tunes in this vein instead of the generic VH and AC/DC ripoffs they normally favored.

When I think of Helix, I think of 'The Ballet!" They were a staple in Canadian stripper bars in the late 80's. Or so I've been told!
