    Default Maybe Next Year (Again)

This time of year is about traditions. About this time every year at the Grouch house we break out the Christmas decorations, laugh at Ralphie beating the crap out of Scut Farkas, wait for the Cowboys to fall apart, etc.

There's another tradition around here...every year around this time the NFL announces who will be performing during the Super Bowl halftime show. Every year I think, "maybe this is the year?" And why wouldn't this year be THE year? But it isn't....it never is. Instead we've got the Who...and that's nice...really. It will be nice for all the kids to be able to put a face to the CSI:Miami panel 4. But wouldn't this be the year for the Might Van Halen to take the stage?

But here's my true sickness....this is just the beginning of the Super Bowl letdown. Deep in the reptilian crevices of my brain, I hold out hope for some vast VH conspiracy. I think it started the year "New Country" performed. I thought, "wouldn't it be great if this New Country crap was really just a subterfuge?" Wouldn't it be awesome if New Country got on stage and then, What's that in the Sky?! What are those four striped parachutes?! VAN HALEN floats down onto the stage and unleashes a sonic reclamation of all that was and is and will ever be Rock and Roll! So I sit, waiting...hoping for the cameras to pan up...but they never do.

And so I invite you to join me and my Advent Calendar of Disappointment. Lets make a paperchain and pull off a link each day until Pete trashes the guitar and we're certain that the Mighty Van Halen ain't showing.

    Again.

    Happy Holidays!

I was thinking the same thing when I heard about The Who minus 2.

They'll have someone more relevant perform, like Ashley Tisdale.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

Let's turn this thing around a bit. Let's say they DO play the Super Bowl one year (pipe dream, I know) with the current lineup. What songs do they play? Assume 3-4 songs max, DLR-era only, no new material (thanks Ed). Fire away!

IF VH did the show they'd probably just play Jump since that's what everybody outside of this place seems to know.

Too bad it's the Who minus 2 though. Curious as to what they'll play. I love the Who and wish they were all able to play.

I think the chances are good that we would hear, ATBL, YRGM, DTNA and Jump.

As a diehard Cowboys fan, can't tell you how much your "waiting for them to collapse" statement hit home. It's only a matter of time, but I can still retain hope. Also, I've hoped every year on earth for CVH to take over on half time, unfortunately, don't see hit happening. If they did though, I would hope for Ain't Talkin...Unchained...Panama...Runnin...

Hey groucho, don't know if knew or if it was a "figure of speech" but according to Dave's book, that parachute bit was a stunt. They were "look alikes". The boys were grounded, hiding in a van the whole time.
