    Default New 12 string

Out of fun I added a few other guitars and a vintage backdrop.

Got a great deal on a Godin A12 I couldn't pass up. Mostly a trade for it.
amazing guitar for what it is imo. First 12 string I've owned. Anyone familiar with these? It's in perfect condition but the input jack might need looking at...*waves @ Ron*.

Thanks man. I agree these are awesome. I've never owned one. Kicking myself now for not.

I was told to tune down a half step and put a capo on it (1st fret)to play in standard...this makes the action and tension better. It's got 10's on it. I prefer 9's on my electric 6 strings..but 10's are fine. I doubt 9's would sound as good on this. The action IS a tad higher it seems and it plays stiffer when tuned standard. Was given it tuned down and it did play easy...it's not too hard to play though. Kinda a good work out. I was considering removing the little bridge piece sanding it down some and putting it back in, to lower the action some.

So how do you handle it? tune down, capo? Just keep it normal? Did you do anything to lower the action on yours or was it as you like it from the start?

Sounds nice unplugged but fantastic plugged in. I bet that Takamine of yours sounds incredible.

i tune mine (Takamine EG523SC) standard, i never really though about tuning down 1/2 a step and using a capo...lol although it seems like a sensible idea, its just a matter of getting you head around altered positions when you are playing higher up the neck.
The action on mine was set pretty low when i got it and i've had no complaints so far, but i can understand wanting to lower it if you feel its too high or you, as you do require more overal pressure on each pair of strings to get the best out of them. mine does sound great through my AER DominoII, i'm totally addicted to playing 12string whenever i can although my band doesnt require it, infact we dont require any kind of acoustic, i need to work it in somehow!

    That 12 is awesome though.

mate, Dont go anywhere near a Stratacoustic, they're awful, a friend of mine has one and the thing is never in tune for more than 5 minutes and he had to have a ton of work done to it before it would play right, and he bought it new!!!!

in all honesty i cannot comment on the Kramer Ferrington as i have no experience of them, but i have heard good things in the past about them, if you are considering a 12-string acoustic i would recomend without and shadow of doubt a Rickenbacker 12-string acoustic, i played one a few years ago and it was absolutely fantastic, i cant remember the model (it was red though! ) but i cant imagine theres many different ricky 12-string acoustic out there.

I've never owned one but had a friend who did and played it often years ago.

If you can get one cheap in good shape they are a fun guitar to own but not a good acoustic guitar. Still personally if I had a chance to get one in great shape cheap I'd love to have one. Thats the type of guitar you could just fk around with and not care about it 2 much. Take it to the beach for the week etc whatever. The neck is awesome, just like a fast kramer electric's so that is the cool aspect..the look and the neck. Otherwise tone wise it's a piece of crap. It's not a loud guitar, not a deep sound either and nowhere near the ballpark of a beautiful Guild, Taylor or Martin.

Still I dig Kramer and to just have it to pluck around with etc it's nice enough for that. The one my friend had had no tuning issues and it was cool to shred on a acoustic sounding guitar that felt like a metal guitar. lol

Very cool! 12 strings are fun.

I had a Kramer Ferrington in my possession for a very short time. Same assessment as At0micPunk, cool looks and playability, crap sound.

The Jems are great guitars. I've got a '91 77fp. I've been thinking of getting rid of it the past few weeks, but I don't know if I can do it.

I agree, great guitars. I have the LNG, a FP too and Jem a 10. I'll never sell these if I can help it. I think the FP's have the dimarzio paf's in them, sounds really nice. Yes wild dated look but kinda cool too. I say hold onto it unless it's never played not truly appreciated and there is something you can get by selling/trading it that you will play/enjoy much more. IMO for the money or trade value I'd rather just keep mine.
