Default 2.Man distracted by bird drives Bugatti into marsh

A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.

The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist. The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.

Gilchrist said he doesn't know if the car was salvageable, but in his words, "Salt water isn't good for anything." He says the man, whose identity hasn't been released, was not injured.

A 2006 Bugatti Veyron was recently offered for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., for $1.25 million.

Funny, the spoiler up in the air means he was doing at least 75 probably when he put it in the drink or right before. If im not mistaken that thing pops up whenever that speed is reached. Maybe it'll be fine, its a VW...

"The cost of the first scheduled service on a Veyron is 13,645 ($22,322), with later services getting more expensive. Tyres need to be replaced approximately every 4,000 kilometres (2,500 mi). The cost of tyres for a Veyron is 6,325 ($10,347) a set, and they can be fitted only by Bugatti. Bugatti says that labour is the bulk of the cost at 6,000 ($9,815), which also includes checking the many complex systems on the car. At every third tyre change, the roadwheels must be replaced. The cost to extend the original two-year new car warranty is 38,000 ($62,164) for 1 year, and 63,000 ($103,062) for 2 years."

Why would you pay that much for a car anyway? It's a beauty, yes, but DAMN!! I heard the tires are $25,000. $70,000 if you want them on wheels, which can only be done in France. That's what Car and Driver said about it. Too much hassle.

the spoiler can be locked into position for Handling mode which aids rear end grip or lowered for Aero mode where it is locked down and the whole car becomes more aerodynamic, this is the only time that the top speed can be reached (a limited 253mph)

Wow! We have some motor heads on here. I envy these guys. I love cars but have no time/cash to tinker or really learn a lot about some of these sports cars. Cool stuff.

It's a neat car but for that kind of money I'd get an Enzo or Reventon. Maybe both for that kind of cash!

My biggest question is how someone from Lufkin can afford that car.
