Default The "Tunes That Must Go Together" Thread

First of, thanks to Scotty for solving one of the great mysteries of modern day life for me.
'How to Link Songs Together On My Ipod".

Thankfully, due to Scotty's wisdom, when Duke fires up the Ipod and hits shuffle, "Intruder" is now always together with "Pretty Woman" and "Little Guitars" is always in front of "Little Guitars".

However, now i have to remember all the songs that should go together, so i thought i'd start this thread, and y'all can help me put everything in it's place.

What are songs that need to go together, i know i linked a couple of tunes from "The Wall", and another good example is Jackson Browne's "The Load Out" and "Stay".

    What else is there?
The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

I disagree here - I think these two songs are just fine on their own and frequently get agitated when radio feels the need to play them both together (kind of like they always feel the need to play "Eruption" before "You Really Got Me"

I think that is all one track on CD!

    U2 - "An Cat Dubh"/"Into The Heart"
Pink Floyd - "Us And Them"/"Any Colour You Like"; "Brain Damage"/"Eclipse"
The Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"/"With A Little Help From My Friends"
KISS - "Detroit Rock City"/"King Of The Nighttime World" (though there are edited versions of "DRC" that one can use if they don't want the tandem, but "King..." definitely needs "DRC")
Joe Walsh - "Inner Tube"/"Theme From Boat Weirdos", though the latter can stand alone as well

    I love ya Chef.

You use the word insipid better than anyone else on the planet.

How do you link songs together in shuffle mode? Had no idea it was possible.

"Feelin' That Way/Anytime That You Want Me"

All of "2112," or at least the first two songs.

"Waiting For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago."

It always bothered me that radio would ALWAYS have to play YRGM after Eruption, WATC after We Will Rock You, etc. How anal. Maybe that's one reason I quit the radio. It's more interesting to mix up those tired hits to give them a new perspective, maybe. Try Spanish Fly before Little Guitars, for example. Where is it written that one would HAVE to follow the other. Oh yeah, this thread.

I don't disagree with you in regard to those examples, and there's other like Eruption.
But by the same token, Intruder is kind of pointless without Pretty Woman.

Bullwinkle's ZZ Top example is a great one, you just expect those two songs together.

Another thing that has always bugged me is, when you're listening to a live album they always put whatever chit chat and vocal intro to a song on the end of the previous song.

In other words, the intro to cut #2 actually comes at the end of cut #1

Hmmm.....gotta disagree with ya on that one. For me, Pretty Woman is pointless without Intruder.

They go great together....Intruder slides perfectly into Pretty Woman, but Intruder rocks all by itself as well. No other VH song like it. Sometimes I listen to it, and then skip PW.

As far as Zep's Heartbreaker/Living, Loving Maid...I don't think I've ever heard them separated. The radio always played them together. (Not that that means anything. Just thought I'd throw that in there.)

Well, "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)" was a single in its own right, "Heartbreaker" appears by itself on the live albums BBC Sessions, How The West Was Won and the reconfigured The Song Remains The Same, plus the songs were separate on the Led Zeppelin box set (so separate, in fact, that "Living..." didn't appear until Box Set 2!)

And mistere/E-roc is correct also about the "We Will Rock You"/"We Are The Champions" tandem. "Little Guitars" plays just fine without the intro, not sure how the intro works without "Little Guitars" following it, though. But I like his "Spanish Fly"/"Little Guitars" combo.

I agree, eden! I do that myself.

    My 2¢:

Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'/City of the Angels
You Never Give Me Your Money/Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam/She Came In Thru the Bathroom Window/Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight/The End

That one is obvious, but the iPod doesn't know that!
