Default EVH Trio of Death and Destruction

Three of Ed's cooler designs straight from the early '80's, when the "Boys" ruled the world!

Very cool. The paint jobs look perfect. The rasta is an impressive accomplishment in replication imho. They all are but that rasta pattern is nuts.

    Very cool man!

Seeing them side by side... did Ed have the same kind of pickups in the Rude and Unchained at one point?

Most likely. Presumably, they were both equipped with vintage PAFs that were re-wound, had their magnets changed and were "potted" in hot wax!

If you look at the pick up bobbins of the pick up in the "EVH Rude"...

... you can clearly see that they were partially melted!

Ya, that's what I thought too. They may be the pickups he had Seymour Duncan work on for him (which may or may not be PAF's that were re-worked). I've got proof that Duncan was working on pickups for Ed as far back as '78.

Well, you can't exactly make that kind of declaration and not expect to be asked to provide the the rest of us with that proof now can you?

Lemme find it -- I'll post it tomorrow, when I'm on my main computer. A while ago, somebody was selling a framed check signed by EVH on ebay. That check happened to be written out to Seymour Duncan for work done... and I believe it was dated WAY back. Like Early 80's. Then I read in some interview confirming Ed went to Seymour's shop numerous times before the 1978 world tour... I think I've got a scan of that interview too.

Actually, I just found the image of the check...

I'm not finding the interview yet though... It wasn't with Ed, it was with one of his friends or techs from early on. Do you know about the one I'm talking about Jimi? If I'm remembering right, there was a huge forum thread about it over on metroamp. The original interview is a scan of a crappy old magazine cutout. Then the guy that was interviewed is actually a member of that forum, so people were asking him about it. It's not Rudy L. though -- somebody else. He confirmed again, like in the original interview, that while Ed was tinkering with his own pickups before the 1978 tour, he had Duncan trying to replicate his original Frankie Pickup for the first time. Not sure if they got anywhere though...

Ed had an on again/off again relationship with Seymour throughout the decades...

Their latest collaboration was, of course, the EVH Frankenstein humbuckers...
