    Default Sports Trip to Pittsburgh

    Hey all,

not sure how many Pittsburgh locals we got here, but a few friends and me are gonna head down to Pitt for a weekend and plan on catching Pitt/Notre Dame, the Penguins that night and then the Steelers the next day.

Any tips on things to do (bunch of guys in our 30s). Also, is it better to buy tickets in advance or are there a bunch of be had the day of the game at resonable prices?

Don't know about the other two, but if your going to a Steelers home game, I'd probably buy tickets ahead of time.

Mike, if you have time, do yourself a favor and hit Primanti Brothers. They have a trio of locations here in the land of the lost, and they are terrific.

Well, I have spent a bit of time in pittsburgh. It's a cool city just to walk around downtown, check out the point (a little park where the 3 rivers converge), as well as the Duquene(sp?) incline for a great view of the city(it goes up Mt. Washington, across the river). There are a bunch of museums around, as well as lots of little markets in the strip district during the day (wouldn't recommend a trip there at night). Lots of good restaurants as well, but the "famous" Pitt sandwhich is at Primanti Bros (there are a few of them, but the original is in the city).

For nightlife, you can't really beat southside - basically a huge strip of bars on E. Carson St. (somewhere around 60 or 70 of them) - makes for a good night. I'm not really sure what a bunch of guys in their 30's are into, and I was only there for 3 months or so, but that should give you a start. If I think of any other stuff, I'll let ya know!

Although not a native of Pittsburgh I'm heading there tomorrow for a Steelers game. Parking at Station Square and taking the ferry across the river. I got lucky and bought my tickets through a friend ahead of time. You can check the Steelers ticket exchange. Both the Pens and Steelers tickets are tough but if you work a little bit you'll get lucky. Pittsburgh is made up of rolling hills with a lot of small ethnic areas. Pretty cool.

really cool town - Heinz is a fun stadium to watch a game. I'll post some photos once i get them from my buddy who was our designate picture taker.

For us the games didn't work out well though. My brother wasn't thrilled with his Irish losing to Pitt. And my buddy (a Steeler fan) was less than impressed with the Bengals knocking the off.

Outside of that a cool trip. Next year, hopefully Chicago.

that was the original plan but they moved the Notre Dame game from 12:30 to 8pm for tv reasons so we had to choose between the 2. And though we'll all hockey fans, we don't get many chances to see a big US college football game - in fact I think that was my first.
