    Default VOA Dean

Okay guys, maybe one of you can help me out here. I'm looking for a Dean like the one Sammy had on the VOA cover. It's an ML, but with only one pickup, and the body looks a little shorter from the rear cutaway to the neck than a typical ML.

I'm assuming this guitar was a one-off for Sammy, since I've never been able to find another like it, or even a good picture of it.

Maybe an opportunity for a good replica builder to make some money.

Are you talking about the one he played on "One Way To Rock" a lot, and at Farm Aid?

Hey, nb. I've wondered about that guitar myself over the years. This is pretty much the best image I could find of the guitar. I cropped it from a huge image (2750 x 1850) available at this link.

You can also find some more (although not as clear) at the Dean site. There is no longer an artist link, but from what I've been able to gather, your assumption that Hagar's guitar was a custom job is correct.

Here is the guitar in use at Farm Aid.

That body style doesn't seem unique for old Dean guitars..only main difference I see is one pickup, gold hardware , inlays and the paintjob. Maybe a model had those inlays? So you could get an old one and repaint it, fill in the other pickup cavity if you want to replicate it? that is unless that is actually a model which they sold with the paint job and one pup but from my quick searches all Dean's that look like that have two pups. Is that a WACF DLR poster in the background? lol

The slogan was "Get Your Baby"

They were from 1982-86 the latter models had the smaller "shrimpfork" headstocks. Sammy's single humbucker i don't think was standard issue thou..

Okay guys, I've got the information I was looking for.

The very guitar that I'm looking for can be custom made at the Dean Custom shop. It's a:

Dean Baby ML neck through, Red body, neck and headstock with Black binding on the body and the neck. White Dean Wings, Gold hardware, and one humbucker, one volume knob. Ebony fretboard with block pearloid inlays.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the bridge. The dealer that quoted me the guitar said that it was a wraparound bridge, but I see a trem on Sammy's guitar. Doesn't look like a Floyd to me, it looks more like a Kahler, maybe a Flyer.

Anyway, the guy tallied it all up for me, and the grand total to have it built would be around $2200.00

Looks like this one is going to have to wait until I can get that kind of money together.

Very cool you got your info man. If it means that much to you I think it's sweet the company will build one for you. Not surprised but how quickly things change it's cool they are still around and willing to do it. I contacted Jackson once about the RR's guitars simply asking questions and they are very willing to custom make, reproduce anything they can. As an adult it makes sense and is a cool option. The inner kid in me when getting the email was like "whoa". lol Maybe you got some of that too. lol peace
