    Default Stompin' 3H

I think that is the name of the song Eddie played with GE Smith and the SNL Band when he was on with Valerie back in 1987. Does someone know where I can find the video of that on the Intenet?

Hey. Yes it's Stompin' 8H. They don't allow it on Youtube anymore, but if you type, "Eddie Van Halen Saturday Night Live Tube", there is one of the smaller tube sights that have it. Sorry I don't have the link. I was looking for this last week, and found it this way though. Quality was ok, but not as good as some of the versions previously avail. on Youtube. Sound was decent though. It won't come up immediately, and you may have to refine your search, but on Google, I found it 3 or 4 pages in.
    Good luck!

It's also available on a 2 DVD set called Eddie Van Halen and Friends.

You can see the clip here: http://bluesmathias.multiply.com/video/item/1

The riff is also used in the "I Want Some Action" outtake.

It was also used in the Steve Lukater/Ed Van Halen tune "Twist The Knife".

Oh, and bits of it show up in "Dirty Water Dog" from VH III.

I love it! I used to have it years ago. I recorded it the night him and Val were on. Like an idiot, I didn't label the tape, or pop the tab out, so it got covered over with something else. So I went for years without seeing it. Thank god for the intraweb!

i love the dwd clip...its from the hard rock in boston. Ed and gary do a great job playing that song together with no drums or bass. Ed really was on that tour...live.

God, IWSA kicks me in the ass everytime I hear it! If only they had finished it and polished it up and put it on a record.

That's a cool riff for sure. Sounds like Ed is playing the Steinberger to my ears. He pulls the whammy sharp and the overall tone/sound of the guitar just sounds the Steinberger.

Supposedly it's a Kramer with a big bass string for the A, with the low E also tuned to A. He did this for Good Enough as well. It does have a more aggressive tone like the Steiny, but it could just be a hotter pickup in that particular Kramer. It was definately not the 5150 though. It's a very cool sound. I've played one of my guitars with this setup, but I used a lighter guage G bass string so as not to bugger anything, and minimize buzz. Also to fit the Floyd, you have to unwrap the string to fit in the Floyd's clamping block. It sounds real wicked, but not very practical. One reason Ed did'nt play Good Enough on most of the 5150 tour. To get that cool slippery dirty sound at the end of the song, he just barred the bottom two strings. With them being a deep low octave apart, it sounds real growly and evil, just like the Steinberger's Trem transposed. Very cool.
