Default Is this a sign of a long snowy winter?

Colo. Ski Resort First To Open; Tahoe Close Behind

    GEORGETOWN, Colo. (AP)

Loveland Ski Area is announcing its earliest opening day in 40 years

The ski area about 50 miles west of Denver will open for the season at 9 a.m. Wednesday, making it the first ski area in Colorado to open its slopes and likely the first in North America.

Troy Hawks of the trade group National Ski Areas Association says he's not aware of any other resorts in North America that have opened yet.

The Boreal ski area on Donner Summit in California plans to open Saturday.

Arapahoe Basin often vies with Loveland to be the first Colorado ski area to open. It plans to open Friday, its earliest start ever.

Loveland's opening-day run will have an 18-inch base.

**Taking the camper to Tahoe on Thursday for the weekend, last weekend it snowed there, this weekend will be more seasonable (65-70 days, near 30 nights) thank God.**

My dad told me the other day that The Farmer's Almanac says the southeast will be colder than normal, with ice in Jan/Feb, and below normal temps into March.

Therefore, the southeast will be colder than normal, with ice in Jan/Feb, and below normal temps in March.

the bees in Northern Ohio have been an absolute MENACE this fall...very agressive,, which old wives tales say is a sign of a harsh winter to come.....

last year we had a near absence of bee activity tho and last winter was a PISSA!

Here here! I say the same. It's funny, while the rest of the free world is bitchin' about cold snowy winters and boo hoo'ing, us skiers are delighting in it! The more the better. Bring that shit on!

I hope Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada's get slammed by repeateded Pineapple Expresses! You watch that winding up out there south of Hawaii, just coiling up like a big 'ole hurricane...then it unleashes its fury!

FYI Eddymon, Boreal is ALWAYS the first Tahoe area resort to open, regardless of Mother Nature cooperating or not. They rely heavily on snowmaking. Not sure that's any spectacular news that they will be open soon.

And what do you know, North Carolina is all in a tizzy right now, as we await snow and ice coming in tomorrow. Score one for the Farmer's Almanac, and my dad as well.

Ya know what Red, I've been following the Farmer's Almanac this winter and I find it really cool that they predicted a heavy snow/ice event for Oklahoma during this week. And look what's happening there tonight.

Read this forcast back in late December.

My lower back aches more than ever, and what do you know, it's been snowing and cold as hell this past week.

I know they say the weather sores come with age but I've had them a long time. And they've been rough lately. April cannot arrive soon enough...

The local TV stations are always competing with one another and promoting their latest SuperDuperUltraTurbo Doppler StormCenter WeatherBlaster gadgetry, but they could probably save a lot of money and electricity if they just had some old dude sit at a desk and read aloud from the Farmer's Almanac.

I've never bought one, myself, but apparently it's based on some old mathematical formula that they keep locked away in a safe from the 1700's or some crap.

It's been pretty spot-on for my region (Great Lakes) too. Colder than normal and less snow than normal. Cabin fever setting in.

I had a co-worker once who wanted to set me up with one of his lady friends, just before we had a major snow-ice event. I really didn't think much of the offer at the time, but then two months or so went by, and I was still looking, so I asked my co-worker about his friend. He says "Oh, she's pregnant now, too late!". Apparently during the storm, she had shared some of her magical special fun with a guy who lived down the street.

Sadly, an actual relationship didn't happen for them. But today, somewhere in Winston-Salem, NC, in an elementary school that is probably a wee bit crowded, a 7-year old is eagerly anticipating his or her first big winter storm, not knowing that the reason for their existence is because mommy gets bored and lonely when it snows, and this one time, her clothes fell off and her legs flew up in the air. The End.
