Well Ed's tone was fairly nasaly though. For the record I think the EVH sounds better. Sounds wider to me.

I've got both pickups waiting to go into guitars. The 78 is 9.2 k, the EVH is 11.4 if I'm remembering correctly. They are both fantastic pickups. The EVH is very similar in tone to the 78 but hotter. The 78 sounds almost like a single coil pickup but with a lot more bite and hot harmonics. I can't decide which pickup I like better.

I really like the tone you got there with both pickups. The 5150 III sounded a lot brighter than your Plexi but I liked both.

Strangely enough, I like EVH through the plexi a little better, And the 78 through the 5150 III a little more. Funny...I would've thought the 78 would kill on both. The EVH seems a little more dynamic, like the harmonics are pretty lively and just below the surface in your picking. They both sound real good though. Can't complain on either.
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

That makes total sense regarding the single coil comment. Remember the interviews where they said one of the coils was damaged within the winding, so even though it was getting juice from both coils and killing the hum somewhat, they were not balanced, so there's your extra highs and mids that they duplicate quite well.

The first clip sounds more processed. AND more like Ed.

I didnt really like the second clips tone as much.
