    Default 2009 Bridge School Benefit

Just ordered my tickets for this ( a bit pricey, but wtf ).

Going to the Sunday show that has Wolfmother, some other dudes I've never heard of, No Doubt, Sheryl Crow, Adam Sandler and of course Neil Young and I'd guess some more suprises.
I have never been to one of these shows and I know awhile back Sam and Ed made an appearance and did some acoustic stuff and Right Now with piano only.

What can I expect at this show? Who has been to one before?

From my experience, these shows have become a little bland and predictable in recent years. If you've never been though, I'd say do it and have a good time. I would be surprised if there were any big surprises though.

I am curious about how long are these shows?

I was reading a review of the 1993 show when Eddie and Sammy were last minute additions and I didn't realize that Ed also played guitar for Paul McCartney during his set and that he and Sam jammed "Rockin' in the Free World" with Ed playing electric and Neil accoustic trading licks. I would love to hear that.

Don't know if it's the same review you read (no McCartney though!), but here's one I found that said the show started at 6P (doesn't say what time it ended).

McCartney didn't play the Bridge School benefit until 2004.

Ed played guitar for Paul SIMON & Garfunkel on "Sounds of Silence" (using a Parker Fly) at the benefit:

I quickly glanced through the article and only saw the name Paul mentioned and I thought it was THE Paul.

I remember the night Eddie and Sammy played because it was the same night that Eddie was on Valerie's show "Café Americain".

I went to the 1997 Bridge show.

It was smashing pumpkins with Marilin Manson, Metallica, Alanis Morrisette, Lou Reed, Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler.

Went to the show yesterday and it was very good and I would attend again.

Neil kicked it off playing one song before introducing Gavin Rossdale who did a 5 or 6 song set mixing in a couple of solo tunes including his recent hit and some Bush songs like Glycerine and Little Things, he also did a good version of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide", never heard a guy sing that one before.
After Gavin it was Wolfmother who rocked it as much as anyone could accoustically. I am not familiar with them but plan to check out some shit on Youtube.
Then it was FleetFoxes who were o.k. for what they do same goes with the next act Monsters of Folk. Not my thing but it was o.k.

Then it was Sheryl Crow who did a nice little set.
She was then followed by Adam Sandler who kicked off his set with a decent backup band with The Doors' "Break On Through" and mixed in Ode To Grandma, 7 Foot Tall Man, Lunch Lady Land, Chanukah Song and Led Zep's Hey Hey What Can I Do and was joined by Neil for his final song.

Then was Chris Martin of Coldplay who did a mix of songs including Clocks, Yellow and Viva LaVida on all piano while being accompanied by a violinst.
Then it was No Doubt who did a fine job as well.
Then Neil closed out the show with a 6 song set of his own.

During some of the set changes they were playing the VH Bluegrass tribute cd. I hadn't heard alot of it before, interesting to say the least.

The weed in the air sure smelled good though.

Didn't Smashing Pumpkins do a version that got considerable play in the '90s?

I do not remember, I know that the Dixie Chicks did a few years ago.
