Default No Country for Old Men . . .

This movie's been playing alot lately it seems on the movie channels on my cable. I've finally watched the whole thing, pretty cool movie. There are alot of scenes shot in West Texas around Marfa and Alpine. I've got relatives around there and the area is very familiar. Anyway there's some parts of the movie that bug me. Maybe I just missed something but . . .

Late in the movie when Tommy Lee Jones goes to the hotel where that dude had been killed, the Aton guy is hiding behind the door. TLJ comes in the room but Anton doesn't kill him or even make a move. Why? Doesn't seem like the merciful type.

The Woody Harrelson character, when he's walking back over the Rio Grande into the U.S. he seems to know exactly where to look for the satchel of money. How did he know? I didn't hear any info given to him when he was talking to the dude at the hospital.

It doesn't show anything, but does he waste the chick at the end or not? It only shows him walking out of the house.

Neat movie. BTW, the Aton spoof on the Simpsons was great!

He definetely kills the girl at the end. They both know she's got it coming. No mercy there.

As for the rest of your inquiry I'd have to watch it again.

    Real good movie.

My other favorite movie from last year was There Will Be Blood. Excellent film.

I wondered about the girl at the end too, maybe he flipped a coin w/ her like he did the old guy in the store? Was he actually behind the door when TLJ came in? For some reason I was thinking he was in the adjacent room behind the door. As for the money, I think the dude said something to him in the hospital about not having the money when he crossed the border but? I'm a freakin' wealth of knowledge here aren't I? BTW, what was that gun he killed Woody & the dude that hired Woody with though? It was quiet but packed quite a punch.

Could be wrong but I think that was just a shotgun with a homemade silencer on it. A 12 gauge at short range is a very effective weapon.

TLJ didn't kill him in the room b/c he was scared. He was up against more
than he was comfortable with. The title kinda says it all. "He's got some hard
bark on 'im." One of the best lines...

The girl at the end was left open - heads or tales - to interpretation. But I
think the inference is that she was offed.

Woody just knew the man's mind and where to look, as much as anything, I think.
The character was kind of a dimwit.

Overall, I was disappointed with this too. Not the best the Cohens have done.
But repeated viewings as you mentioned reveal some thematic things that
    redeem it somewhat.

I enjoyed the movie, but as previously said, There Will Be Blood was a better film, and should have won best picture.

Chigurh killed her. When he exits the house, he checks the bottom of his boots. It's a reference to earlier in the film when he killed Wells (Harrelson) and carefully avoided the blood on the floor.

This movie is polarizing. Some love it, others hate it. Here's a thread at the Home Theater Forum discussing the film.

Tommy Lee Jones pretended not to see Chigurh. He got scared and left. That's why he retires right after that. He's finally run into something in the job that he doesn't understand, and that he's afraid of. He's no longer a sheriff, he's a scared "Old Man."

Remember earlier in the movie, Chigurh kills the executive in the office who's hired Woody Harrelson. There's another man in the office and Chigurh asks him, "Can you see me?" The guy says, "No," and Chigurh lets him live.
Chigurh doesn't kill people who can't see him. It's not too logical, but look who we're dealing with here. He's pretty crazy.

The movie doesn't do a very good job of explaining this. I read the book.
    It's a very good book.

    Don't read this.

I remember not understanding the whole monologue at the end. So in that way it was a bit of the a disappointment because I didn't get the ending.

Great movie. Even better book. It was tough to read, though, because Cormac McCarthy doesn't use quotes when someone speaks. If I ever see him, I'm gonna shake his hand, tell him how much I like his stuff, then box him in the ears while yelling at him to use some friggin' quotation marks.

I love the scenery. It looks fantastic on Blu Ray.

NCFOM is a character-driven movie. It's not dependent on dialogue or special effects. I like these kinds of movies when they're good.

Really? Weird. I didn't realize that TLJ saw him. He walked around, checked the bathroom then sat on the bed. Actually I was wondering why Anton didn't kill him. Strange characters.
