Default Outside songwriters for new VH album??

I'm confident theres gonna be a new album next year, with the positive vibes Eddies giving, but one thing I am wondering about is the songwriting process. Do you think it will be Dave alone doing the lyrics? I ask this, cause we have'nt heard a decent batch of Dave written songs in over 10 years. Was'nt the "DLR band" album released in '98? I'm just wondering will Dave "still have it". It just gets me wondering will there be a outside songwriter on the odd song like Desmond Child or even Glenn Ballard. I heard Desmond was involved with Eddie in some way in the 90's. It could've been writing.
What is understood need not be discussed

Desmond Child was involved in the two songs on BOVI. Mike Post helped write lyrics for VH III. I am sure that Ted T. had some input into the songwriting process back in the day.

It never hurts to bring extra eyes into the process.

Desmond Child was involved in the two BOV songs? Since when? It was Glen Ballard who helped write and put those songs together.

    Outside writers? Meh.

I always thought an album loses it's luster when outside writers are used. Just seems unnatural to me.

Where are you getting your information, dude? Whomever is giving it to you, that person should be kicked in the nuts.

Here's what you were thinking of...

Desmond Child wrote a song for Dave in '96 that Van Halen was considering recording for the BOV1 CD. They didn't.

Mike Post didn't write any lyrics for III. Gary wrote most of them before the music was ever written. Ed had a few lyrical ideas for "Without You" that he sang to Gary that first day they were jamming. Oh, and Mike Post wasn't even in the studio more than half the time the band--I mean Ed--was tracking III.

Ted Templeman helped arrange songs, because that's what a producer does--offer an objective view on the music and do whatever is necessary to help make it better.

I like what Glen Ballard did with the 2 BOV1 songs. I would love for him to produce the next VH album.

I thought Roth mentioned in his book, something to like "Ed wanted to use Bon Jovi's writer (Desmond Child) to write lyrics for the BOVI project."
As I recall it, Dave rejected it and the idea was dropped. Now it's been a long time since I read that book, so if I don't have this exactly right please forgive me....but it's something close to that, according to Dave.

Dave talked about it in his book. In 96 or so Eddie suggested they use him and Dave wasn't at all interested. I don't see Dave wanting that kind of help from anyone but I do think the right producer would be good for them and I think Dave and Eddie would work well with the right guy who could suggest changes and help direct the overall direction of the project...and I think Dave and Eddie still have it even after all these years.

Desmond Child's recent work with Bon Jovi has been laughably bad...in fact, everything about recent Bon Jovi has been a real stomach turner.

Back in the mid eighties on the Slippery and New Jersey records, as well as Keep the Faith, he has shared songwriting credits and those are pretty good songs. I wish I knew how much of it was Jon Bon and Sambora and how much of it was Child on those shared credit songs.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Dave mentions in his book that they worked with Desmond Child a little bit, and to paraphrase "those saccharin filled grew up too close to mommy lyrics work for Bon Jovi, but not Van Halen".

I may have it wrong, but I think that is correct.

I don't think it worked out with Desmond.

    I haven't looked, but I don't think Desmond gets a writing credit.

I wasn't trying to discredit you, just trying to add a little additional info to the thread.

lol what new album? No just kidding. Maybe they'll use outside writers. They will definetly be working with some top notch industry players, cuz they will definetly hype the album real bad so who knows. Hopefully it comes out before Deceber 21st 2012.
