Default "MANSON" September 7, History Channel

The commercial for this documentary aired this evening on the History Channel. It looks positively creepy.

"Promo video for the two-hour special MANSON premieres on September 7 at 9pm ET/PT on HISTORY. Shortly after midnight on August 9, 1969, a car pulled up to actress Sharon Tates sprawling Benedict Canyon home. As the driver, Linda Kasabian, stood guard outside, three of her family members committed one of the grisliest mass murders in American history. Forty years later, HISTORY presents a chilling drama-documentary featuring exclusive, first-hand testimony from Kasabian, as well as interviews with Vincent Bugliosi, the chief prosecutor in the case and author of Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders; family member Catherine Share, aka Gypsy; and Debra Tate, Sharon Tates sister. The two-hour special MANSON premieres on September 7 at 9pm ET/PT on HISTORY."

from my eyes, it looks pretty interesting. but then again, these 'creepy' and other adjective-related things intrige me. i know i am weird or demented like that.

I was a 13 year old kid when Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry published the book Helter Skelter in 1974, about the Manson family's murder spree and subsequent trial. It was fairly heady stuff for a teenager to be reading. One evening at home alone, I was reading the book in my room. At one point, I said aloud "OK, if this Manson fellow is so powerful, then prove it. Shut off that lamp". Naturally, the reading lamp by the side of my bed decided to go out at that precise second, plunging the room into complete darkness.

Needless to say, sleep did not come very easily that evening, nor would it for about 2 weeks afterward.

Manon put an end to the whole, "Pease, Love, and Happiness" of the hippy era.
Knowone since Hitler had an influence on people.
    But Hitler didn't have LSD.
The shit he pulled was unheard of back then.
If it wasnt for the girl that was the driver, I dont think the whole trial would have been as "easy".
Even though it was the longest trial ever. 10 months.
Mansons just lucky they did away with the death penalty in California.
You cant be a legend in your own mind dead.
If your into learning about true crime, this is the strory to read.

Altamont was just as influencial in having a hand to end that era. Also, unless you were referring up until that point, the McMartin trial went on much longer.

Shouldn't there be a ban on any publicity for these cats? Serial killer fetishism alone has created some copycat murders. Might as well totally ban any publicity for these people. I don't see what harm it would do, and I see plenty of good.

nah, a free society means a free society which includes the freedom to be interested in this kind of shit.

I am. I watch all the manson, true crime documentaries and forensics shows they have.

If someone becomes a copycat, well, put 'em in jail but banning topics for documentaries, academia or plain old entertainment isn't going to stop people from being freaky killers.
    Stay out of it, dude.

Gee that movie Helter Skelter wasn't enough? That movie creeped me out. I also read that book by Bugliosi. Not sure if I'd watch this one. I've seen enough.

I still find it interesting that whenever someone interviews him on T.V., he is usually restrained (except for that youtube clip of his dancing skills) and the interviewer is frequently seen cowering and seated as far away from him as possible.

The most disturbing part of the whole Manson saga is the fact that this country is filled with so many mindless sheep and that they would actually follow a sick fuck like this.

The same could be said for the Purple sneaker people, and the Jonestown people. It's amazing what a charismatic person and a butt load of drugs can do to to one's rationalizing ability. The people who followed him for the most part were young females who were for the most part good church going kids, who somehow ended up in San Francisco following this nut case.

He even had one of the Beach Boy's, Mike if I remember correctly, spell bound for a moment as well.
