Default Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine' Remake In The Works

yeah, as mod of the "Music Only" forum, you'd think I'd put this in the Beatles thread, but I wanted it here where everyone could hate it!

    from www.billboard.com:

Robert Zemeckis is in negotiations to direct a remake of "Yellow Submarine" for Disney.

"Submarine" was a 1968 animated feature based on music by the Beatles. It was produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate.

Disney had no comment on the dealmaking, which is in the thick of trying to acquire the rights to the music to the film, which included the title track as well as classics such as "Eleanor Rigby," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," "When I'm Sixty-Four" and "With a Little Help From My Friends."

Like all Zemeckis productions, "Submarine" would be done in performance capture and would also be a digital 3D endeavor.

The movie, a hit when it was released, is about a soldier called Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. Among the group's encounters are the Blue Meanies, music-hating creatures.

Technically, I'm holding out opinion on this - if it's done right, it could actually be okay. After all, when you watch "Yellow Submarine", those aren't the Beatles voices you're hearing (except for the live scene at the end, of course), so if they do this Pixar or DreamWorks style and the characters still look like the Beatles and they find actors that can sound like the Beatles and they keep the actual Beatles songs (and not have, say, Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers singing them), it could be okay. But until they do all those things - it could be crap! Big, steaming, Hollywood remake style crap!

Are there any filmmakers with original ideas anymore? As for this remake, well, i guess the kids will like it.

These two steaming piles of ineptitude immediately come to mind: The "Flintstones" along with "Boris and Natasha".

Then again, Zemekis did do Roger Rabbit and Forrest Gump. We shall see.

Yikes.....even the original wasnt all that impressive.

But Billy....I'd say prepare to not only have your fears realized, but also to come after you with sodomizing fury and flaming dildoes.

Disney + Remake of a musical = badly done Beatles covers by Jonas, Hannah Montana, and the whole stable of craptastic young Disney channel stars.

    Bank on it.

zemeckis, I trust to do treat the beatles well.

    Disney? hmm...not so much.

Hey, what did you guys think of Across the Universe?

I know a lot of folks were worked about that one, including me, but I found it to be a pretty good movie/musical.
    Stay out of it, dude.

anyone watched that old Beatles cartoon where it looks like the guys who made it also made shows like Underdog and Bullwinkle? they got Paul and Ringo's voices kinda good but they blew it with George and John.--I wish someone would come along and take those cartoons and just redo all the sound on them(including the songs in 5.1..!)

I always thought they did a pretty good job with the voices on the original "Yellow Submarine". I also read that The Beatles were so impressed with the movie that they offered to do that bit at the end of it.

I saw the original on acid and it wasn't that good. For this I may need a 10 strip, some malt liquor, "medical" marijuana, and a labotomy cause this is really gonna suck. I swear, they should leave the Beatles legacy alone. Period.

    Holy....

The ones made out of stone called "statues" -- occasionally came to life and rode off is a colonial cliche. How many more times do we need to hear about how the oppressive Raj's wore villainous black capes, crafted cunning plastic masks to impersonate people, and drained all the blood from their slaves so they could keep the fluid in bottles in their dungeons? I mean, YAWN!

But if you're willing to sit through this dry sort of historical drama one more time -- or even just this dry historical review -- you will not be disappointed. In fact, some of you might just learn something they didn't teach you in school!-
