Another top 10 list w/ no EVH...

Isn't EVH more "remarkably precise" than Slash???? Wow...

Jimi Hendrix has been voted the greatest electric guitar player of all time by the readers of Time Magazine.

Music critic Josh Tyrangiel compiled a list of his top ten, which included legends such as Jimmy Page, BB King, Chuck Berry and Eric Clapton.

However, Hendrix was given the top spot on the strength of his unique fusion of genres such as blues, rock and psychedelia.

"No-one wielded a guitar with as much charisma," Mr Tyrangiel commented.

Hendrix, who died in 1970, was followed in the list by former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, who was described as a "remarkably precise player".

Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones was also included in the top ten, partly because he has written more memorable electric guitar riffs "than anyone else in rock 'n' roll".

Mr Tyrangiel highlighted the hook to (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction as a good example of this, along with the riffs to Start Me Up, Gimme Shelter and Jumpin' Jack Flash.

The full top ten was as follows:

    01. Jimi Hendrix
    02. Slash
    03. B.B. King
    04. Keith Richards
    05. Eric Clapton
    06. Jimmy Page
    07. Chuck Berry
    08. Les Paul
    09. Yngwie Malmsteen
    10. Prince

Prince is a great, great musician.....but top 10? No.

David Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Johnson, EVH all deserve places here.

What astounds me is that Prince somehow managed to place behind Slash. Then again, who reads Time magazine these days, anyway? The last issue I picked up had about 45 pages in it, and 75 % of that was ads.

obviously the Schon supercedes all lists. I'm sure this list is really titled Top Ten (other than The Schon) because if they did include him, he'd take up all 10 spots.

as for Prince and Slash, hey, both are popular choices for a mag like Time. Slash because i guess he's "relevant" and Prince because, well, he's fucking Prince.

Face it guys, no top ten list published by anyone other than you as an individual will ever please you 100% and the same goes for me.

What's the point of doing the whole "I can't believe they ranked ______ ahead of _______" yet again?
    Stay out of it, dude.

Because it gets us away from debating the so-called "merits" of VH III?

Schon's HAIR alone supercedes all lists.

Lists are like assholes everyone has one. Maybe the music critic of the New York Post consults with Tyrangiel of Time. Neal Schon had the best Fro ever on a white guy and man can the dude play!
EVH 1979: Well, actually it's not much of a vacation, because we run everything ourselves. We design our own album cover, we have to be in the office every day to sign checks - the whole corporation revolves around us. Nothing can be done without our approval. We even have photo approval.

Throughout much of his career, Slash had been a stumbling drunk. Great guitarist with phenomenal tone, but just not worthy of this kind of acclaim.
