    Default What's next for Sammy?

Chickenfoot's tour wraps up and then in October the Chillis go back in action so Chickenfoot are out of action for a while.

I can't imagine Sammy just quitting music period. He has to do something. But he said he was splitting up The Waboritas. It wasn't "we'll be back when I'm done with Chickenfoot", it was just "it's been a good time, it's sad to see it's over". Maybe they'll reform, but it sounded kinda final, like he's remembered what it's like to be in a band with more talented musicians and doesn't want to look back.

He didn't really promote Cosmic much, and he was titling that as a solo album rather than Sammy & The Wabos (unlike his last three releases with them). I am starting to wonder if things soured between them when Sammy jumped ship for Chickenfoot.

So...will the Wabos be back, and if not is he gonna just trundle out solo records?

Personally I really dont care if the Cabo Wabo house band comes back. I can see Sammy putting out some music between now and the next Chickenfoot album, but I cant see it being Earth shattering on any level.

The only thing I really want out of him at this point, is a duet cd.
I've always wondering what he would sound like with other singers.

Where has Sam said he's splitting up The Wabos. He hasn't said anything like that.

All I've heard is that he said if it weren't for CF he would be slowing down quite bit. And IMO I think that was just to hype CF.

Sammy will always be touring. End of story.

But I'd like to know where you heard that he was breaking up The Wabos.

Well we know MA will be his bass player moving forward. Could do a small gig tour called: "Half a Foot"

The dude should really just take it easy though.

How bout a live streaming show from his house or cabo and have special guests come on and jam once a month.

Sammy might slow down just a little after the tour, but I think he'll stay pretty busy. October will be his Birthday Bash, which is always a HUGE event.

And, as recently as one week ago, Chad Smith said that Chickenfoot will reconvene next year.

Newsok.com posted an interview with Smith on 8/12/09:

"Smith says he's having a ball with Chickenfoot and insists the
project will be revived in 2010."

Not for nothing but The Chili's ALSO said that there were NO PLANS to reconvene any time soon.

I don't see Chad doing double duty with the Chili's and CF. Maybe The Foot will hit the studio next year and then tour in 2011 when a Chili tour would probably be wrapping up.

Chili album in early 2010. Tour until Mid-Summer - Fall 2011.

    Chickenfoot reconvenes.

    Maybe?

Didn't Sam say the Wabo's were on paid permanent contracts? I'd think he'll be back with them off and on for a long time to come.

He's kinda off-and-on about that. Half the time he insists CF aren't done, others he says "there'll be another chance to work with these guys, at some point" as I read somewhere.

I imagine the plan is to do a short tour next year, kinda like Ronnie James Dio did with Dio in 2008 when Heaven & Hell took a break. Between legs of an RHCP tour or something?

Where has Sam said he's splitting up The Wabos. He hasn't said anything like that.

But I'd like to know where you heard that he was breaking up The Wabos.
He's not said it's all over, but they are not gonna be an 'active' band again.

    Quotes from a VHND article:

“An era is coming to an end,” he said. “I really want to concentrate on Chickenfoot. I think Chickenfoot probably will go back into the studio next year and make another record. I just don’t see why we would not do that. This is way too good.”
“I’ll keep on paying them,” he said. “Honestly. I want them to stay a band because we’ll still do parties and play the Cabo Wabos.”
Parties and Cabo, so no albums and no tours. Not splitting them up, but no longer even a semi-pro outfit, totally recreational.

It was put out as a solo album because it was a panache of songs, and enough of them were done with different musicians that it really wasn't a complete Wabos record.

    • Psycho Vertigo and Peephole are Planet Us songs.
    • Loud is with Michael Anthony, Billy Duffy, and Matt Sorum.
    • The title track is a techo song, so I wouldn't be surprised if none of the Wabos played on it.

I think the only songs that have a true Wabos stamp (or feel if you will) on it are 24365, When the Sun Don't Shine, and Fight for Your Right to Party, and obviously Dreams/Cabo, if you want to count that.

Regardless, there's enough interview evidence out there that things did not sour between Sam and the Wabos.

Oh I imagine they are fine, I was just thinking aloud about the idea, that's all. More that Sammy's passion to work with them has declined big time.

The fact it's a mish-mash does make me more confident that Sammy's gonna be on a clean slate with whatever he does next. Sounds like he was clearing out the basement with Cosmic.

From all I've read, the Wabos are still together and the Chilis are supposed to go into the studio after the Chickenfoot tour ends.

The way I see Sammy, he prefers to bounce around musically. That is, he likes working with super stars, such as Van Halen, Chickenfoot, etc. and then returning to do his own stuff. This bouncing effect I'd suspect is his attempt to keep things fresh.

The reason why he did not name the Wabos on CUF was because there were songs by Planet Us, Michael Anthony and the Wabos on the CD. There may be more contributors, but I think my point is made.

As for what Sammy does next, I imagine he'll put together another album and have another summer tour. Hopefully this will be followed by a Chickenfoot studio album in the fall of 2010.

That being said, I'd love to see a live album of as yet unreleased songs in late fall of 2009. A serious teaser of things to come....

Eric Singer has juggled Kiss and Alice Cooper for over 5 years off and on with great success. No reason to believe Chad can't do it too.

And as Mitch said, when did Sammy ever say the Wabos were done? On that note, if they do reconvene, I'd love another album like Ten 13 or Not 4 Sale.
