    Default Rank the songs?

We have a thread for the solos, and I apologize if this has been discussed already, but how would you guys rank the songs on the Chickenfoot CD?

I didn't get "Bitten by the Wolf" on the CD I bought and have only heard it through tinny speakers on a laptop, so I won't include it in my judgements.

    1. My Kinda Girl - What can I say, I love it. Great melodies with fantastic backing vocals, great Satriani solos sprinkled throughout. I love listening to this car while driving with my windows down.

    2. Sexy Little Thing - Another one I love to crank in the car. Great for short little road trips; great, fun chorus that I love to sing along to.

    3. Future in the Past - It was close between Future and Soap on a Rope here, but I love Future in the Past. The whole song just grooves and the outro is absolutely brilliant.

    4. Soap on a Rope - Like Future, the outro makes the whole song. But it's just a fun, groovy party rocker all throughout.

    5. Oh Yeah - First song I heard by them and still fun to rock along to.

    6. Down the Drain - Has a really fun improv type feel to it. The band's all having a great time on this one, and I love Satch's tone.

    7. Learning to Fall - Probably the one my wife loves singing with me the most, so I have to put it on there. ;-)

    8. Avenida Revolucion - Best intro of any song on the CD, IMO. Love the drum/bass intro to that song. Heavy lyrics, but a good beat.

    9. Turning Left - Wicked guitar riff and an awesome solo. Satch makes this song cook.

    10. Get it Up - Not a fan of the way it's sung, overly, except for when it gets to the harmonies of we can change the world. Satch's fretwork is great again here though.

    11. Runnin' Out - Probably the song I like the least...can't really stand the chorus, although I do like the song quite a bit apart from that. But the chorus is bad enough to make me change it.

What are all your thoughts? Just for conversations' sake!
The song ain't dirty it's really just the way we sing it...

My Top 5 in no order:

    Get It Up
    Down The Drain
    Future In The Past
    Sexy Little Thing
    Soap On A Roap

The only one I consistently skip is Runnin' Out.
    .

    .
VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

    Favourites are :
Future in the past. I still think that given more time they could have done even more with this, but it is a class piece of music-making.
My Kinda Girl and Sexy little thing. Perfect pop songs.
Avenida Revolution. Not a fan of "tribal" drumming, but this one gets better as it goes on. The spoken sections are very powerful.
Soap on a rope. Basic. Silly. And just a fantastic groove. Sammy excels on parts of this.
Get it up. Again, all a bit silly but a nice dark edge to a simple rock song. I agree with the poster above about the "we can't change the world" bit.

    As for the others:
I like Oh Yeah but the chorus is a bit staid.
Learning to fall has some great vocals but it wears a bit thin. Satch saves the day with his guitar work mind you.
Down the drain. Sounds like a jam and nothing more.
Turning left is probably great live but it is a not a great song IMHO.
Runnin' out. Such fantastic sleazy verses but such a terrible chorus. Really a let down.

I think the performances are uniformly great on this album as are about half the songs. However, considering I am not what you would call a rock fan, I am surprised I still like as much pf this album as much as I do after repeated listens.

If this is what they can do playing off the cuff with such little time, I can't wait to hear what they come up with after touring together. I'd love to hear them go further into the multi-section type stuff and move away from the bombast fist in the air, brain in the mud stuff.
A man could lose himself in a country like this.

This is pretty close to how I feel about the record as well...particularly the part I bolded.
    Stay out of it, dude.

    1. Avenida Revolucion - Slightly dark music and harmonies that rule, best lyrics on the record.

    2. Turnin' Left - a straight up shredder. the energy I'm into. SATCH rules this one.

    3. Runnin Out - what I feel is an underrated one, it's pretty driving. for some reason I really love the 2 snare hits before the solo comes in. the chorus feels very Halen-ish to me. Also, some more good lyrics.

    4. Oh Yeah - yeah, it's the "single" and all but the tune jams hard for sure. aside from the chorus being "OH YEAH".

    5. Soap on a Rope - you can tell this one is definitely a thrown-together type of jam from these dudes, but it has a certain feel and groove to it that cant be denied. First song I heard also, and it got me into it.

    6. Down the Drain - again the same kinda thrown-together tune as SOAR, but it's even more noticeable. lyrics are eeeh but the chorus is pretty killer.

    7. Get It Up - bouncy and fast, probably awesome live. might be higher on my list if it wasnt for the "ARRIBA!" part. The rest are pretty good lyrics.

    8. Sexy Little Thing - this one is quite AC/DC-ish to me and seems a bit simple, but it is QUITE catchy and should definitely be the next single as many on here have pointed out.

    9. Learning to Fall - a decent ballad, I like the guitar parts and some of the vocal harmonies here between Mike and Sam a lot. I do not think it's the "greatest love song" Sam has ever written like he thinks though.

    10. Future In the Past - this song has a strong recent Sammy solo vibe to me for some reason, which can be good and bad. I'm into the solo and the outro.

    11. My Kinda Girl - I think this is the worst song on the record. I appreciate them trying to go for a commercial/catchy type tune but I don't think it works. The lyrics are cheesy and Sams voice sounds a little too harsh for this song in some parts.

Obviously I love this record overall, it's better than most rock records that have come out in the past several years. And quite better than Sam's last couple solo efforts. But I am pretty critical of it as you may notice. Psyched to check them out live next weekend.

Learning To Fall can take a hike... sappy and overwrought with 80's ballad angst... it sounds like a Journey song. Chickenfoot should stay clear of anything ballad like in the future and just rock it out. The remainder of the CD is all fine and will forever remind me of the summer of 2009, even when I'm sixty four.

Difficult to rank them with the exception of #11. Turning Left. I know a lot of people really like this song, some think it's the best on the album. I have tried to like it, I really have. I have listened to it at different times of day...sober....not so sober etc. and I just can't find a way to like it. Funny how we all have different tastes when it comes to music. This isn't a song I skip over though...this is a song that I didn't rip into the computer so there is no risk of hearing it.

I'd just have to say that:

Avenida Revolucion is my number 1
Get It Up is tied with Runnin' Out for 2nd Fav.

    Everything else rotates.

Well I just saw them live in Baltimore last night and I have to say my favorite was Learning to Fall. Awesome Power Ballad it could be a bigger hit than anything else.

My favorites keep changing as well. Here's my ranking in groupings (in no particular order within the groups).

I am surprised that DTD keeps working it's way down the list. I'm not sure why.
