Are you fucking kidding me Roland! How do you find the time. It's not like you just throw these together. Your songs are a great lesson in rock n roll music history. Fenominal job my friend.

I like how you mix the different tempos and still make it sound like one continuous song, well done.
Taylor Swift is nice to look at. Adele can sing.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Ya know, there is something I've wanted to say for quite a while here, with regard to KC's efforts. Initially, I was pretty hard on the fellow, as I could not equate his chosen avenue of art with my own. Yes, 9 times out of 10, being incapable of understanding a form makes one suspicious of it. Yet to be truthful to myself, I must admit that KC's work parallels my own endeavors...the difference being the ultimate execution.

As some of you know, I am a particular fan of the "Mash-Up", going so far as to create a thread dedicated to the practice. I find it intriguing to hear a vocal line juxtaposed against an unlikely rhythm track. Yet truthfully, what KC pulls off in the space of a mere 12 bars outweighs anything these so-called mash-up artists do over the course of 4 minutes.

Think about it. Roughly 18 months ago, an audio track of Dave Roth's vocal from "Runnin' W/The Devil" appeared upon the net. Within hours, various "treatments" arrived, ranging from the sublime (The Beatles "Drive My Car"/Roth mix) to the ultimately sad (virtually everything that followed). That vocal track and it's varied combinations have served as a virtual blueprint for mash-up work ever since.

But before that, Roland was presenting his stuff, and some damned nifty stuff at that. This fellow uses several drum tracks to create a single beat, then flies in varied guitar parts to suggest not only a new direction, but offers an entirely new way to hear the original work within an entirely new context.

Yeah, it bugs me how he at times decides to include segments of tunes for far too long, going as far as to suggest over 1:30-2 minutes of a Steely Dan or VH tune, thus chilling the sense of exploration offered by his opening visions. But that is merely a personal quibble, a difference in structure. And after all, it is he that is doing the work, not me.

Roland, I truly apologize for being so critical of your efforts. I find your work to be inspired. It was wrong of me to be so dismissive of your art, and I hope that you'll realize my sincerity in this. Yes, the avenues in which we choose to work are removed, yet surprisingly similar. It was completely wrong of me to attempt to denigrate your art without giving it the full attention it so rightfully deserved beforehand.

I wish you nothing but the best.

    Sincerely,
    chef

I'm really glad you said that, chef.

Haven't heard the recent ones yet, Roland, but I have downloaded them and I'm sure they're stellar!

How soon do you need an answer?

I'll need at least a full day to listen to them all.
