Default New Album question / speculation?

So, Ed says he is recording, writing etc. I am wondering , for the new CD he will tap into the vault of 10 albums & and give us a CD for all time ( Def leppard hysteria project ) or write fresh material.

Personally, I would hope for a hit after hit CD, no filler tunes...Would be nice to hear VH on the radio again, and it not be Jump..

    Thoughts?
Sam, Dave,Gary... who cares. its all about what makes you feel good.

history tells us that Ed often digs up old stuff when writing material as well as coming up with new stuff. IF there is a new album, I imagine that pattern will hold.

There will be filler, can't remember the last record that didn't have some.

Really? That's interesting because I was hoping for a real stinker...a bunch of uninteresting songs, no hits that will quickly fade into obscurity.

    Stay out of it, dude.

LOL!! Now that album would go multi-platinum!

And I'm quite positive VR's tribute would go off the charts!

That's great! I especially like that last one.

Vegas should post odds on VHIV actually making an album and when it would appear.

well in an attempt to keep this thread legit...here's my post...

In the past, when Dave was attempting to work with them in 2000 era, he wanted to change the the core sound of the group. I'm hoping/assuming that Dave has let that fad go and would want to stay with the traditional rock sound...if not...the train will certainly derail again...

I bet some of the 2000 songs would be used however I wouldn't be surprised if they are recorded again. Dave's voice is better and there is that little thing called Mike on the recordings.

Depending on what version is the real deal but Sammy did confirm that Eddie has either a lot of songs or at a minimum a shit load of riffs on tape. I can't imagine that all the times that Al and Eddie get together they go "Let's play Right Now!!! No what about Aint Talking Bout Love instead?"

I bet they just jam and sometimes a song is developed like Girl Gone Bad.

So I imagine they would go through those tapes and see if there is anything there. Hopefully breakfast foods are done.

I agree. The 2000 sessions will be a part of it. And the newer stuff Eddie has been writing. With a sober and healthy Eddie and Dave getting along, I think we'll have a new killer cd coming next year.

And don't forget Lukather claimed they had tons of material already in the can. That was, what, 3-4 years ago? I agree about the Breakfast foods.

I would guess whatever is inspiring Ed at the moment that inspireds Dave. Whether it's something from 2000 or 2009, if it works, it sounds good, then by golly it will be on the album.

    Just a theory.

I hope so. I also hope that Van Halen doesn't do the same thing as some other bands from the era and just re-release the music from an old album with slightly modified lyrics. It works for those guys, at least from a financial perspective, but an "updated" Van Halen would be awesome. Something not as bad as VH III, but a little different from 1984.

A few requests for the next album: (as a certified EVH apologist, I feel that I can say these without them being interpreted as insults to the man.)

    - Throw the keyboards away. Far, far away. If it's black and white, it ain't right! "Jump" is good because it's so different for Van Halen. Don't cheapen it.

    - Some cello, on the other hand, would be pretty cool.

    - Please don't try to write the next LZ IV or Dark Side of the Moon. Just write a new Van Halen album and let history judge it.

    - No songs over 3:45. In fact, that's even a little long.

    - This is probably assumed, but Dave should be the lead singer on every song. How many agree?

    - One cover song...my vote is for Superstition.

    - Finally, releasing the album to the public would be nice.

    Amen dude!

I for one NEVER take anything Ed says seriously. The guy is great at making promises but fairly poor at following through. I think VHIII is the last original Van Halen album you will see outside a live album, rarities box set, or other similar project.

On the other hand, I hope I'm dead wrong and that a new album of recent recordings is released someday. I'd even settle for a quick 5 song EP over the shear nothing and BS we've had for over a decade.

But if I were a betting man, and Vegas was placing odds on that happening, I'd say betting against what Ed says is always the safest bet. Sad, but true.
