    My New So Cal Charvel

So I traded a couple things I wanted to get rid of and was able to get one of those new Charvels. I've had my eye on the plum one that the guitar store near my house has had sitting there for two months and finally was able to get it.

All I had to change out was the Floyd trem bar, I hate the new collared ones. I put the old kind on it from one of my other OFR's and now it's great. In fact other than the tuning screws being a little tighter than a German-made OFR, the Korean OFR on the Charvels are pretty nice. I see no reason yet to switch it out. And I didn't think I'd like the DiMarzios, but so far I do actually. And the neck is so comfortable, one of the nicer-playing necks I've ever had actually. Impressed.

    Here are some pics.

Nothing quite like a new guitar. No such thing as too many guitars either imo.

Best of luck with it. Thats a nice one. The color with the black hardware is a great look. That guitar does not scream 80's in appearance but it's a cool throw back in a sense. I remember back in the day going to music stores and the all Charvels hanging up and especially the Jackson's had these wild snake skin patterns and reverse pointy headstocks..all that good stuff. It's cool to see the Charvel brand producing guitars.

Didn't Kramer make a brief reappearance with Gibson and then vanish again? hehe

    Anyway, congrats.

Hmmm... that doen't look quite right, Brett. Hmmm, no, not right at all. There's something wrong with it... Tell you what! I'll give you my adress and you can ship that guitar to me to check it out, what do you say? I'd give it back in... two, maybe three years, hm?

hehe Well time is always a factor but money is the big one. If I had it to burn I could easily spend millions getting every guitar on my wish list including vintage holy grail guitars. You might only play most of them a handful of times but still you'd have them. lol Then there are amps and studio gear. Hey I'm not complaining but I don't think the thrill will ever leave me when buying a new axe or sweet piece of gear. I even dig online guitar forums and looking when people post their collections and new guits and all that. It's a timeless fascination most of us have I'm sure.

Congrats Brett! I picked up the same guitar in candy green on eBay a few months back. Awesome guitars!

I was playing the SD1 version in a shop in Belfast - been back a couple of times. One in particular is a peach. But I've bought two guitars over the last year already, and I want a new laptop for travelling with, so I'm having to restrain myself.

When I do open up the wallet for new guitar, however, it'll either be one of these of, if I can afford it, a PRS Singlecut. Very different, I know, but they're the two guitars I'm lusting after most at the moment.

Isn't that a So-Cal? I didn't think the San Dimas had a pick guard, and the output jack resembles the So-Cal as well.

Correct. The So-Cal model is the strat copy w/the pickguard. The San Dimas/SD1 has no pickguard. Here's what mine looks like:

Sweet guitar Brett. BTW, you mentioned you swapped the bar collar for one of your old ones. Do you know if you can still buy 'em? I checked out Floyds' site a while ago, but did not see anything at the time, just the newer style. I've been asking around at my usual haunts, and they kind of look at you sideways. I've got a few Floyds that have the newer collar and I cant stand them. I oil mine so they don't squeak, but I just don't like the feel of them, and they almost feel a bit too tall somehow. I've got a few of the real old 80's originals but they need new bushings too so no point swapping them as is.
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

Love the allen wrench holder mounted on the back of the headstock. I'm surprised more manufacturers don't do that.
