Default Please suggest a Volume boost pedal

    Hey all,

I should likely just pm Jedi cause he's the man with the info.

Sill can you all suggest to me some volume boost pedals.

    This is what I need.

A small pedal. Just an off and on button no(wah wah style) foot pedal. True bypass.
Just something that will boost me for my leads so I don't have to channel switch to do it. Something that won't effect my tone, only boost the signal for when I toss a lead in. This is especially for when I'm playing less distorted overdriven tunes. I use pure amp gain/distortion. Some songs will be on the clean channel I just want to stomp on a button have my volume louder for the solo than stomp down to get back to rhythm. I assume it will have a volume knob and maybe a few other things on it but I want simple, good sound true bypass boost.

    Thanks!

    MI Audio Boost 'n' Buff.

Check it out. I use it to push the front end of my amp, but it'll work perfectly fine as a clean boost, too. It also has a substantial buffer (hence the "Buff").

you can flat line an EQ stomp box and raise the gain on the master and click it on and off. May not be the cheapest solution though.

I'll chime in along with all the other replies Punk.

I used to use that old MXR EQ I modded to be switchable to do that. Works well for the application of changing your tone to cut through the mix better, but it does just that: changes your tone.

Now I'm using a Keeley Katana. Just one knob that'll control the amount of boost. The knob is a push-pull so you can pull the knob out to add a bit of saturation to the boost as well. Change in tone when on is not incredibly significant for me.

Other good options are the CAE MC-401 Boost (which also acts as a great buffer), the ZVEX Super Hard On, or the

I've tried all but the Boost 'n Buff, but Dave Friedman designed that, so it's got to be awesome!

Honestly if I hadn't gotten an amazing deal on a Katana, I'd probably have gone for the new 2-knob Boost 'n Buff. That way I would've had my buffer and clean boost (with controllable gain) in one pedal.

The greatest pedal ever....the MXR Micro Amp. I use it with my 5150 for my leads. Doesn't color your sound, nothing, just a volume boost, cuts through everything and I am competing with our singer's Peavey JSX too. It's awesome, and one knob. You can't go wrong.

I just wanted to thank you guys again. It's cool to ask questions here cause often times some of you use similar gear(5150 head) and may even play some similar styles of music.

I already use some new MXR boxes on my pedal board with great success so I decided on the MXR Micro Amp. It's was going for about $130 for a while and musicians friend etc just dropped it down to 80 bucks so I jumped on it last week. UPS tracking says it will be here later today.

I will experiment with it but where do you guys put this in your chain? Also you run it through the main or the loop?

Mine is in the loop, I run it after my BBE Sonic Maximizer and my Boss DD-3 Delay. Not that this will help you because of the way I have my stuff laid out (the Micro Amp IS in the loop with the BBE and DD-3), but this is how my board looks. BTW that tiny little box on the left is the 5150 channel switcher. Love it so much more than that huge Peavey thing.

I edited and posted a pic of my board so you can kinda see what I have going on.

Only things in the loop are the BBE, DD-3, and the Micro Amp, despite the layout.

Thanks Brett. I have pic up somewhere here.. I'm too lazy to track it down now but through the loop I have a send into the delay ..delay out into the reverb and then the reverb out to return.(pretty sure that is right lol) Going into main the order is guitar into Wah, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tuner out to amp.

I've been debating putting the chorus in the loop too but haven't experimented much. Over all I love how it all works/sounds.

That little box you have for the 5150's foot switch is pure gold dude! What a GREAT idea. Can you respond or pm me with some details? I have the one that came with the amp on my pedal board and it is large and takes up an unnecessary amount of space...plus the jack on it..though still works fine is crappy imo.

    TY
