Default Philadelphia Eagles Jim Johnson Dies

I just read in the Houston Chronicle that Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, known for his attacking defense, has died. He had taken leave last year to deal with a tumor on his spine.

    RIP Jim.

No one has any respect for the passing of this man?

I grew up a Cowboys fan and can appreciate his contributions.

    Wow.

there are some posts in the NFL thread, but still surprising none here!

Gotta be a sad day for the Eagles, but this could also be the thing that inspires them to dominate. Sucka would know more whether or not they have the personnel to do that. Cancer is a horrible disease and as much as they seem to be making advances against it, you still here stories like this where the victim is gone too fast. Rest in Peace, Coach Johnson. May your players carry your lessons on to the field with them for the rest of their playing days.

Didn't see this until this morning, rarely scroll down in Play Ball....

I was definitely a fan of Jim Johnson. His defenses always gave opposing teams hell, to put it mildly. Blitz and blitz and when you get tired of blitzing, blitz some more. I was truly worried anytime my Panthers locked up with the Eagles because of the defensive coordinator. I would not worry nearly as much versus the Pats.

Jim Johnson went through the head coaching interview process more than once, and it was generally believed that his age was a factor in not being hired. Perhaps the owners were just scared to death of the guy. Intense, razor-sharp eyes. I think he would have been good in Frisco. I think McD has a huge set of footprints to fill.

Farewell, Coach Johnson, one of the great defensive minds the NFL ever knew. Again, my heart goes out to his family and the team family as well.

Sad news for sure. He was our defensive genius and by all accounts a great guy as well.

There was strong interest in him becoming a head coach but he truly never wanted it. He parlayed that interest into a nice contract extension here. He coached in his youth on a college level and didn't have much success and never went back to it. He loved his job here, loved the Eagles, Philadelphia and loved the Philly fans. Sad news for us here.
