High N Dry was played a lot on the radio in Boston, i think the label was pushing it,
because they played "Let it Go" and "Mirror Mirror" on rotation.
This was normal rock radio, not the local metal show.
This was pre-release, because i remember buying the album when it finally hit the stores.
But it got played, unlike the debut.

I never understood why it failed to take off, while BIB & HTH were huge successes.
Similar formulas & the band was young and fairly good looking.

Then i remember hearing the great Photograph riff, again pre-release, and my local
rock station put that on regular rotation.
I thought it was great, and the label was really pushing it, because HND failed, so
    they gave them another shot.

But before hearing it ten million times, that song was exceptional.
    Those guys could write.

The thing would have tanked again, if it wasn't for MTV.
But i was surprised that both HND & Pyro, were sort of ignored until they did
    videos.

They had good songs, even without the visual aspect.

Same thing almost happened with Hysteria. The first singles Animal and Women really didn't get much traction. It was the POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME single and video that took off. Then Love Bites hit #1.

Yeah but it took off in Florida. Does that really count? Florida is like America’s dumpster fire.

I remember thinking "Women" was awful, like THIS is the huge thing they were working on?

"Animal" was a well written tune, though i hated it.
    Same with "Love Bites."

It was like when 5150 came out.
Fucking hated it, but could hear they wrote some hits.

But it was a weird sound to me, the Hysteria album.
I'm actually surprised that thing took off, because it was robotic sounding.

"Pyromania" i could understand, but "Hysteria" was kind of sophisticated & kind
of dumb, at the same time.

‘Women’ was just ok. ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me’ blew up that album.

I know what you mean since I felt the same with these 02 albums, 5150 and Hysteria.

I guess that 07 hit singles would explain the success. And their hard work, too. The touring, the promotion, the videos. I mean, these guys went thru some hard times and stayed together - You gotta give'em some credits there even if the record sounded different, although I'd say it was kind of a natural process from Pyromania to Hysteria and then to Adrenalize. This last 01, Adrenalize, I do remember seeing them live for that Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and they came in playing Let's Get Rocket.

Jesus ... I think it was the last time I listened to something new from The Leps. I totally lost the interest, really.

I liked the song "Women" but didn't really see it taking off. It wasn't a big enough hit and quite frankly I'm surprised that was the lead off single.

"Sugar", for me, was as dumb as Poison.
Never understood the appeal of such a simple, dumb song, maybe that was the point.

I guess it became a Stripper anthem, which i can understand.

I think a lot of people just really loved the whole "rap" aspect of it.

I also love the early stuff through Pyromania. Pyromania is a phenomenal Rock n Roll record imo. Hysteria was way too polished for me, plus not enough rockers on it.

I will say that through the years there have been some stellar songs released since Hysteria.

It took awhile for Hysteria to take off. They took a long time off after Pyro and the first 2 singles didn't do great (Women and Anmal). It was that garbage Pour Some.. that really got it going. They played one of their first concerts here in Virginia and it sold terribly. I was there to see the opening act Tesla. Empty arena. They came back to the same venue at the end of the tour (again, I went to see the opening act Queensryche) and the venue was sold out.

I have never cared for the song, Women, which is a shame because I friggin' love actual women.
