    Default Sam's Club vs Costco

Ok...how many of you guys and gals have memberships to one of these or both?

The Wife and I will probably be getting a membership to one of them pretty soon and I'm curious as to which one you all think we should do.

I've been into Sam's on several occassions. I go every month to buy supplies for my office's breakroom and I'm quite pleased with the experience thus far.

I've noticed that certain things are not all that much cheaper, and some cases more expensive, than at walmart or the grocery store.

For instance, cans of coke are less expensive at walmart and when they go on sale at Kroger I get a much better deal.

The things I intend to buy regularly are cleaning supplies, toiletries, meat/frozen foods, non-perishables. I also will most likely take advantage of their pharmacy and certainly their T-shirts, shorts, and occasional electronics purchase.

Online, I find very few significant differences, price wise, between sam's and costcos though my impression is that costco's house brand is better than sam's and that their selection may be a bit better.

I am well aware of the social/political aspects of each company and all things being equal, I'd rather support Costco...but I'm not a wealthy man, and as such, I can't always afford the real estate over on the higher moral ground....so if Sam's is significantly cheaper, I'm going with Sam's.

    So...what do you all think?
    Stay out of it, dude.

i got costco and love it. Sam's Club opened a bunch of locations up here and couldn't survive so they closed them all.

    Costco.

One note though. You have to use cash or Amex there.

    Costco accepts debit cards.

I have memberships to Costco and BJs.

BJs accepts manufacturers coupons, Costco does not.
BJs has a much better selection of baby/toddler items than Costco.

Other than that, I prefer Costco hands down. Costco has a better meat and produce department.

Yes, you are wise in realizing that things are not necessarily cheaper in the clubs than at the grocery stores. I find that packaged, shelf-stable foods are not always a bargain. Fresh meat, frozen foods, produce usually are, provided that you can use it all before it goes bad.

The Wife and I are trying to only use fresh vegetables and cook healthy...we've slid these past couple of weeks, but for the most part, we buy fresh veggies every week.

What I want to do is buy meat in bulk, toiletries and cleaning products and stuff with really long shelf lives...like peanut butter, dog biscuits and stuff like that.

And also the more indulgent frozen food stuff...pizzas, jalapeno poppers, for when we just want to lounge around and forget about eating healthy for the day.
    Stay out of it, dude.

    My bad.

I have never had a debit card, so I never think about them.

The only CREDIT CARD they take is Amex.

Costco can be hit or miss on debit cards....I know a few that weren't accepting them down in SoFla the last time I discussed it with a couple of friends down there. Of course, things can and do change.

the debit card thing isn't a huge deal...i can just as easily hit up an ATM on my way to the store...

as far as selection goes...on every day items, not electronics, furniture or stuff like that...but toothpaste, clorox wipes, soap, steaks, chicken breasts...does one win out over the other?
