Default Why the "Big S" stage on the 07/08 tour?

After watching a few bootleg shows from 07/08 I've noticed the stage is a big S. Is it intended to be a big S, or is it just how the ramps have been constructed. If it is a S, Does anyone know if theres any meaning?

That, and it was also a subliminal message in the shape of a dollar sign $$$$ saying "Give us your money"!

It was the worst stage they've ever had in their entire career. They didn't even utilize it for what it was created for in the first place!

I dunno...that postage stamp size one for 2004 (that Ed kept falling off of) may have been designed to resemble the VH logo and reflect unity, but the overall effect was just the opposite.

By way of comparison, although ill-suited to the band's needs (other than Roth's forays into the audience), the 2007-08 set seemed positively inspired.

Not even close. Does that piece of crap VH3 stage ring a bell??? That was horrible. And that '04 stage was nothing spectacular either.

The first thing I noticed in '07 when vids started popping up of VH's test run show in Los Angeles was the stage. To me it showed they were serious about this tour.

Forgot about that tiny stage! Postage stamp is a good description of it, oh yeah. I felt bad for the fans who payed serious coin for those ring seats, only to see Ed stumble thru that tour and play poorly!

Disagree. It was so small for a VH stage I thought. And, the fact that they hardly ever went on that s walk. It seemed like a waste to have it designed if they weren't going to go out on it. Dave did a few times, but, he was the only one I think. I also kept waiting for Dave's midgets to pop out of that box on Ed's side of the stage. Never happened either. Talk about disappointment!

I never saw the VH3 stage. Too small or what? They kept scaling them down in size for some reason.

As the hips, neck all fail you find yourself needing less room. Jr probably feared for his live venturing out into the fans.. BUT I didt see the tour a few times and when Dave went out, his schtich ( sp ) was still pretty funny...

I didn't have a problem with the VHIII stage...I thought it simple, understated and perfect for what they were trying to do: put the focus on the music and new direction.

I didn't see the 04 or 07 tours but my general outlook is that big stages with lots of ramps and stuff can be cool but can also create way too much distance between the band members and as an audience member, I have a hard time following the players around...almost like a Where's Waldo deal.

I prefer smaller stage set ups where the players stay closer to one another or a stage that draws the crowd into the show. I liked the U2 All That You Can't Leave Behind tour's stage...it was like a big circle and there were fans in the circle and out of it.

Bottom line, if I notice the stage, chances are it was a bit too much though. The stage should accent the band...not be part of the show in and of itself.
    Stay out of it, dude.

I never got the concept of the "mystery box" on stage left (Ed's side) either. It looked like a set of French doors with a light behind it.

A ramp into the audience is just a waste of time. There's nothing to do out there except wave your arms and go "Yayyyy! I'm out here!", and then run back.

It's especially dumb when one of the principal members of the band decides to use a fifteen-foot guitar cable for "artistic reasons."

    Don't read this.

Yes, I agree with you there. I remember the last time I saw Aerosmith and they had this huge rectangle that stretched out halfway across the St. Pete Times Form floor and Steven Tyler and Joe Perry were out there all night. We were seated in the first section on the side and it was as good as front row seats. I was kind of expecting/hoping for something like that with VH, but it was the worst Van Halen show I ever went to. The only one who really used the S was Wolfgang and he went up to the top most of the time I think trying to keep his distance from his father who was...let's say not himself that night.
    Could this be magic?

I thought the 'S' would be utilized more by Ed and Wolfie.
    Dave used a few times.

I liked the concept of the rings for the '04 tour but it could've been a bit bigger.

Ed's cable was more like 30 feet, and I happen to find a distinct difference between playing with a cable and a wireless, so I don't blame him.

But he really could've gotten a slightly longer cable and walked out to the thrust a bit more.
