Default In my quest for perfection...

I've been working on making my parts unlike any other's available. The red single-coil pickup is pretty amazing, the Schaller's I'll have soon are different than you can buy off the street, my reflector set is... well, I have to say nothing short of kicking Fender's ass on authenticity, my pickguard is very cool, and my 3-way switch is coming soon. I have some options here; the vintage switches that would have been in Ed's original are obviously not what is in Fender's attempt. I have an old switch from the '70's and the wafer is different.
Here's the (look at the exposed parts of the wafer) Fender:

    and here's the vintage switch:

When I make these available (I'm asking for opinions here) should I do what Fender did and make them from the same red phenolic material or should I use what was in the original? I want to pick up where they stopped and really do it right.

I'm having these switches custom made; should I have them made from the same material Fender used or should I use the vintage wafer material?

In the quest for PERFECTION - I would say have them built from the original material from the time that it was put in. To use what Fender did would be a "short cut" to get the money and run. Which ones are currently on your site if you don't mind me asking. I ordered one and was wondering if I should wait?

I've been modifying new switches to look the part until now. They do look like the vintage switch. The one's I'm having made will cost considerably more as they cost me more and are custom made.

My vote is go for the original material.

It appears that Fender had to custom make theirs too based on what's available today. I wonder why they apparently chose the wrong one...

Thanks for working so hard to make parts available that help us street people build the most accurate replicas on the market...

I look at it this way...
We (meaning most like you and the rest of us here) are the one's that made Ed a rich man. The fans that scraped together enough money to buy an album, see a concert, or to build a guitar are who he needs to be thinking about and not the 300 people with more money than they obviously knew what to do with that bought the Fender. Even if my prices are a little higher for some things I think everyone understands that time and money are involved and I strive to provide the best possible product while wading through the muck that Ed dished out to throw everyone off track. With the research and some common sense you can build a better and much more realistic/accurate guitar than Fender did even without having the real one in your hands to copy.
If I would have had the real Frankenstein for even one hour I would have delivered a guitar that Ed would have truly been confused by. He said he couldn't tell the difference, and maybe there is one out of the 300 that was way more convincing than the rest, but you can tell by pictures and of course by some of the parts that they missed the target.
I do like the Fender so don't get me wrong and think I don't; I just think it could have been done better.
I think Ed should have some pics made available of the original to back up Fender's work.

If it is possible to be more accurate (which obviously it is), why not make it that way? I love the fact that I'll be able to look at mine and know it's closer than a replica people got charged $25,000 for.

Is this what the real deal has in it? What will be the difference with the new Schallers?

Yes the Fender has a switch just like that in it. You can see it barely in the pic above.
My new Schaller's will have a shorter post so the strings ride a little closer to the face of the headstock.
I'm thinking I will probably have the switches made to vintage specs though and then this material will not be correct. It'll be like the Fender... inaccurate.

Very cool. What will your pricing be for this one and also when will you have it available?

I don't think I'm going to have it produced with this red phenolic wafer. I'm going to have them made with the original material like this.

Fender used the red phenolic like my sample to get the guitar done according to their timeline instead of making it like the original.
If I can work it out this week we're probably looking at 6-8 weeks before I have them in stock. Maybe faster, but it's better to overestimate the time and not have pissed off customers. Once I get the details I'll start taking pre-orders. I'll probably put them on sale at first for pre-orders to start them in motion.
