Default Is "Chickenfoot" one of the best VH related albums ever?

This is easily in my top 5 VH or VH related albums ever!!!! I'm just lovin' it, and yes, I'm treatin' like the follow up to "Balance" that we never got.
You've excelled Sammy with this......Thank goodness you ditched the fun, beach and swagger of "Livin it up" and that whole beach trip. This is a welcome return to the true "Red Rocker".
"Future in the past" gives me chills man, one of the very best.....

I think it's a decent album. I wouldnt rate it anywhere near anything VH did with Roth or Sammy. There's nice performances on the disc, no doubts. As far as the songs go, i think that's the weakest part. Most of it would've been better suited for Joe's next instrumental cd, IMO. I hope they do well....my only wish would be for Sammy to shut up with the VH trashing, and for Mike to get over the "whoa as me" stuff...and for Ed to also not go further with discussing the whole thing. I'm getting off-topic, though.....bottom line in my book....decent cd, will be forgotten in 2 years or less.

Quite frankly, no. The best VH-related album ever released came out in 1997, by a bunch of folks you never heard of. It was called "Everybody Wants Some".

Is "Chickenfoot" one of the best RHCP related albums ever?

    Sounds dumb, huh?

Well replace RHCP with VH, and you have the same silly bullshit...

I know there is excitement about the album but come on. Its better than VH3 but there are another 10 Van Halen albums better than it. I would say Standing Hampton is betters along with Eat Em And Smile. Heck I like Never Say Goodbye better.

There also are a few RHCP albums that are better too.

Its above average but it stands out more today because of the lack of similar music.

    Totally agree.

Don't know how anyone could view Chickenfoot as a follow-up to Balance.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

I think it's kinda hard to listen to Chickenfoot and not see it as a follow up to Balance. It's half of VH circa 1986-1995 with an outstanding drummer ( who the more I listen to like better than AVH and a world class guitar play) Not even that, but it has a darker sound to it just like Balance did, at least some of the tunes.

The songwriting maybe not up to par with Balance, but at least in my mind it's as good if not better than ou812, (which IMO is the weekest VH van hagar album.)

But to send things off: Sam kicks ass.

Funny enough, I don't think of VH at all while listening to Chickenfoot.

I wish them the best as well, but I thought the record was kind of uninteresting. I can't even level that criticism at III.

I don't know why people say the songwriting on "Chickenfoot" is not as good as Balance. I have issues with this.

There's no piece of shit song like Can's Stop Loving You. That song had the worse cliches you could think of, and was not even original, they had to ad Ray Charles to the credits. Then Not Enough -another weak ballad with bad lyrics. Then a drunk guy dropping shit randomly on a piano. Then a rocking song ruined by a chorus with the words "Wham Bam" that should never be used in any rock song. Etc.

The album had two outstanding tunes, "Seventh Seal" and "Don't Tell Me." Those two might be above the CF stuff songwriting wise. But the songwriting on CF is superior as a whole. It's a more solid effort. And listen to the end jam of "Turning Left" - there's nothing even close to touching that on Balance.

I've got no problem saying CF > Balance. Fact (ok, not fact, but IMHO)

hardly is chickenfoot's first album a great one. Honestly I felt kinda cheated buying it. Its probably one of Sam's worst compilations of poorly written lyrics ever. Most of the songs sound less interesting than up for breakfast.

Chickenfoot is definately Sammy's best post-VH album.

I look at it as apples and oranges though. I could also say that "Eat 'Em and Smile" was Dave's best post-VH album, but I wouldn't compare EEAS to Chickenfoot. And I wouldn't compare Chickenfoot to any era of VH. To me they are all unique entities that do not require comparison. Much the same way (and please don't start an arguement) that you don't compare the Rolling Stones to The Who. They're both awesome and unique.

I would agree that it resembles the Balance follow-up though.
