    Default Would You? Should I?

    This should be pretty easy.

I'm in Kuala Lumpur on a visa run and found what was the holy grail
of my youth: A Jackson Soloist with dual EMGs. Black contoured strat-style
bolt-on with old school Floyd Rose.

While I've outgrown some of this covetousness (the Floyd, for starters and
I would actually prefer a humbucker and 2 singles, not to mention a neck
thru), part of me says, what the hell's another 7 or $800 US on the credit
card? It sounds great and plays alright - better than a lot of Jacksons I've
run across this side of the lake.

    So, would you? Should I?

It has nothing to do with the guitar or the sentiment, dude; when you used the term "credit card," my immediate thought was "no way." Not to sound too daddy-like, but if you can't actually pay for it, don't do it.

Yeah, I know. But I could feasibly recoup the cost when I get back home.
Maybe shouda left that bit out. I'm not sure f its worth it though, I'm chasing a
dream that maybe I've outgrown. On the other hand, it's a cool axe and I've always wanted a good Strat-like gtr.

Have to agree with everyone here. If you don't have the money for it, then keep the Visa in your pocket. I've followed that rule quite strictly and it has worked out very well for me, I've got practically 0 credit card debt...sorry for the lecture dude.

No worries. I've always managed my debt responsibly and have the rating to
prove it. Even in my darkest hours, I've always managed to keep my balance
in check and have yet to be late - ever. That this thread has turned into a referendum
on our macroeconomic woes, I shoulda seen coming. Frankly, it pisses me off that the
people who don't know how to manage debts and all the shady brokering behind it all
has made it harder for people like me to get advances/good rates/etc. when we deem
    appropriate.

That said, I think it's fairly obvious to me now that the fact I ran home to
blog about my whimsy instead of going nuts with it means I was looking
to be talked out of it. I knew I didn't need it, but the fact that I found what
I coveted as a kid almost made me feel obligated somehow. Crazy, I know.
But I'm better now. Thank you.

what clues me is the statement:

It sounds great and plays alright - better than a lot of Jacksons I've
run across this side of the lake.
seems like a lotta dough to plop down on something that just sounds "great" and just plays "alright."

Especially when you say that it doesn't have the pick up configuration you really want and that you've probably outgrown the style of guitar to begin with.

Doesn't sound like a slam dunk purchase. Now...if you were bill gates...i'd say, what the hell. But if you're like the rest of us...another 700-800 bucks for something that doesn't sound all that awesome doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

Besides, I see those all the time...and for 500 bucks.
    Stay out of it, dude.

    I am Van Halen.
