Default Question about a guitar trick

Friend of mine were having a discussion about Eddie and a question came up. We were discussing the gimmick of sliding harmonics where you slide your picking hand down towards the neck while pulling off with your fret hand. To my knowledge the first recorded instance of that trick was probably You're No Good off of VH2.

I am sure others did it before then but was wondering who and when. Was wondering if any of you can think of another example.

Is that what Randy Rhoads did in the beginning of Crazy Train?

    Try this:
On the A string place, place your index at the second fret position and your pinky (or ring finger) at the fourth fret. Now initiate a continuous triplet by hitting the fourth fret C# note, a hammer-on the second fret B note and a pull-off the open A string. As you continue to play the sequence of notes, take edge of your hand and slowly slide it up towards the headstock. Start from the area around the bridge p/u and work your way up to the neck pocket to achieve the harmonics. You can also reverse directions at any time.
Once you get it down, try on different strings and positions on the neck, you can even switch strings while your doing it!

I have a bootleg of Michael Schenker doing it around that time as well. Unfortunately, I don't know the specific year.

There's no real trick to it at all. Ed also used a variation of this technique on the end of Sucker. You use the low E string, or A as Jimi said. (It's just personal preference) I'd add that with the back edge of your hand, you apply a little less pressure than if you're muffling the bridge. With your left hand, use your index and ring fingers with an exagerated stepped hammer/pulloff (Index, Ring, Open, Index, Ring, Open( to produce the cyclical rhythm. (try the 5th and 7th frets of the E or A, practicing the technique as they produce natural ringing harmonics, and it's easier to get the feel down in this area). It's a fun technique. Yeah, the Schenker brothers have used it, though not quite as in your face as Eddie did. I'm sure I've heard Beck do it live also, but I can't remeber what tune.

I used the technique on a solo too, I was doing it on the 10th and 12th strings of the A...worked pretty damn good.

Yeah at 3:40 is what I am talking about. The earliest I can hear a guitarist doing that is You're No Good so that is I think 1979. I am just curious if Jimi, Beck or the god of all guitarists Neil Schon ever did it prior.

When I do it, its usually the G string, pulling off on the 3rd and 5th frets.

Crazy Train intro is just a pick slide.

I haven't researched this particular trick yet, but I usually discover that any guitar trick which I think of as a "recent" invention has already been done, eighty years ago, by Andres Segovia.
And he stole it from Fernando Sor.

    Don't read this.

Randy also does a harmonic with the vol off, then swells it into the pick slide
