Default Jet city "melt" strat body

Thought I would show a concept I will be incorporating into my guitars. I will be " melting " different types of woods together. The combinations are endless. I will be doing a " Ying Yang " type of designs. This one is Ash on top. Mahogany in the middle, and Alder on the bottom. They are drawn out then machined to match and then glued into a blank and then machined out from there. This one will be for sale by the way ![IMG]

I love the idea of 2 different woods, not sure about the wave pattern personnaly. Since the body already have very good lines..they seem to come and disturbe them. Maybe lines that add to the excisting curves intead of disturbinb them?....just an idea..

I would love to see something like that with a beautiful figured maple top!!! You could put in thin bits of walnut.

I am definitely with Ron on filing for a patent for this concept.
Dammit!!! I still smell like cotton candy!!!

You know, the "horizontal" cuts are just the tip of the iceberg with this. For instance, you could go with vertical sections, and even at angles for that matter. Definitely an interesting and inspired concept. Best of luck with it!

Actually I was influenced by a guy I saw building custom basses about 20 years ago who did something similar. I don't think it is something I could copyright or design patent, but then again I don't know that for sure. I am really excited about the combinations I have planned. That one above in the photo was just a quicky too see how well the glue seems came out. The only way to get them tight is to do them on the CNC. They came out flawless. I want to do some in the Wolfgang bodies, matching figured maple with other woods and some cool finishes in between. For example a Ernie ball EVH style body like the one Ed had painted black and white yin yang finish.........but do it with woods instead and clear coat it. And the necks too, doing like half maple half mahogany all the way through ! There are just some sick options. I am really fired up about it.

scott, I doubt you'd be able to patent much of this, as when you think about it, this is pretty much the process used for making chess boards back in the day. Perhaps you could get a patent on your interpretation of it, yet I'm unsure how that works. As I said before, it's certainly cool and all the best to you with it!

Conklin basses have been doing this for awhile. Not knocking your idea/build, just throwing it out there for the copyright questions. I don't think Conklin has trade marked the procedure, I just know they've been doing that style for a while.

It is a cool look. I've wondered about having darker sounding wood around the Floyd area to offset some of the brightness of the Floyd. Granted you're still removing material to install the Floyd, but...

Keep up the good work regarding the bodies.

Yeah I am into Conklin ! I first discovered him about 15- 20 years ago. He is what I consider to be a last of the dying breed of out of the box premium builders. That is where I got the idea years ago and would like to further experiment with different ideas with my stuff. That is why I was telling Ron trying to get some kind of mark on the idea is really a waste or probably would not happen. The only way to possible get a mark on something would be one particular unique combination that would be unique to my builds in some way. I am more interested in building then wasting time with marks and such. It is a shame that people have to spend so much time with the trademark thing rather than just build and shut up ! We are becoming to much of a trademarked world. I think the USPTO is even slowing down on issuing marks and such as well. That is where I am at at least. Conklin seems like primarily a Bass and obscure type of builder and I dig that. You can get away with some really obscure stuff on basses unlike guitars, because they some of the combinations become to bright and heavy for 6 string applications. Happy 4th weekend !!

I've seen ad's from a company that does something called a "Melted top", but that's just basically a paintjob that looks melted. This is incredibly cool Scott! I'm just thinking about some cool woodgrain combos now.
