    Default VH4 good for VH?

This will probably kick off a shit storm, which I dont mean to do, but looking at Ed's wedding photos got me thinking.

But first let me get the standard caveats out of the way...

    1. I dont HATE Sammy Hagar, I liked some of VH music with him, I prefer DLR.
    2. I have nothing against MA. How could anyone, he has always seemed the one stand up guy out of all of them, class act etc. I was lucky enough to meet the guys in 98 and from the first instance MA was the most friendly guy.
    3. CLEARLY Eddie is the root cause of most of the upheaval and inactivity in the band over the last 10 years.

Having said all that, despite all the well intended vitriol spouted here about the "disgrace" of VH4 which has its roots for most in the seemingly shabby treatment of MA and for some (secretly) the fact that Sammy has been replaced with DLR, it seems to me that the current situation for VH is the most healthy line up and situation for EVH and therefore by extention VH.

The penny dropping for me was when Ed noted recently that he has been sober since the mid tour break, meaning of course that he was still drinking to a problem level in the early stages of the tour. He started from a low base.

THis means that at some stage of the tour, someone has said enough is enough and sorted Ed out. This could have been Dave, Wolfy, Al, Janie, Live Nation or even Eddie himself (least likely) but bottom line, it happened. As a consequence it seemed that the second half of the tour went exceptionally well, fun was had, lots of $$$ were made and reputations intact or enhanced.

Juxtaposed with the tour 4 years earlier, which by accounts Ed was forced into by Al and/or Sammy for $ reasons. There are MANY accounts of chemically induced insanity on this tour. Many seen and experienced by the fans, many even publically bragged about by Sammy. The plane window incident for example. So what was Sammies (or the rest of the band's) reaction at this point, at a point when he sees that Eddie has flipped out seriously? Push on....tour must continue, doesnt matter whats happening to Ed lets wring it for what it's worth.

Lets look at the aftermath of both tours. 2008, Ed "seems" good, looks and sounds healthy at more frequent public appearances, wedding etc etc. Aftermath of 2004....insert creepy image of Ed here.

Bottom line, from the outside looking in, it seems shabby what happened to MA. I also understand why many as so passionate in their disclike for all VH, however I think it is really clear that VH4 is the best for Ed and therefore VH.

Not a Dave v Sammy post, but being as we are here, it no doubt will become one.

More of the same old retread, eh dingo-Bob? Golly gee whillikers Ed looks good, tan, blonde-frosted dyed, gained some pounds, smiling in his wedding photos...(cough) ghey for Ed (cough)

Maybe Ed's just happy living life, and it has not one iota to do with the stupid pseudo-band. Maybe comparing it to '04 is a stretch when you're talking about a man's sobriety and paralleling it to a band's evolution or lack thereof.

LOL. I guess you'll know if VH4 was good for VH when / if :

    1. An album actually gets released.

    2. Said album is worth a blue fuck.

BTW, I don't think you get to wank anymore about controversial topics and posters when you start threads like this one.

if I believed VH the band existed anymore than maybe I'd say that they have a shot but VH since 96ish has been all about a flipped out eddie and how he cansabatoge the band vh, weather it be vhIII, lackluster work on BOBW ( I believe eddie ruined anything good that could have happened in 04), porn music, the whole mike fiasco, dave not being allowed to talk....

if vh existed like it did from 78-93ish with 4 guys equally contributing then yeah it would have a chance but the chance of that ever happening again is prettu slim.

Wasn't meant as a retread VS. The focus of what I meant (probably too long & wordy) was what happened at THE critical moment of both tours. Something (you and I dont know what) was more healthy in the second tour as clearly evidenced by the fact that they stopped, cleaned him up and did it properly. Whilst you might think it's "ghey" to note that Ed by any measure is in better condition than he was 04-07 I dont think that it is arguable otherwise.

Couldnt agree with you more about the proof untimately being in the pudding, but as to the focus of my point, there is something healthier about his environment now than previously.

By the way VS, if someone notes that Ed seems better you say they are "ghey" but in another thread you note that someone calling you gay and living in your mums basement is the last bastion of the weak or words to that effect? Pot? Kettle?

Since you're in the back 40, we understand that you don't know the difference between 'ghey' and 'gay.'

Hey...maybe if Dave appears in public with some botox and some fresh Jamaican tan, it'll portend great and wonderful things for VH4.

And uh, pot and kettle, that's amusing, considering all the crying you've done about hot button topics and posters who post just to start shit.

Plenty of Aussies are cool, like-minded folk not prone to fanboyism for bands they didn't even see live.

Ed certainly seems to be in a better place now then he was at the end of the 2004 tour. That's a good thing.

Hmmm... by all accounts it's not Sam/Mike who wanted to extend the tour forever in 2004.

I think the current situation is the best for Edward. Meaning no music, no tour. Just hanging at home with the family. There is no "Van Halen," meaning the band. A bunch of people NAMED Van Halen gathered together - but that was for a wedding.

I'll defer to your greater knowledge of all things gay & ghey, not something I've spent a lot of time researching.

Gee VS, not like you to leap into a thread, completely missing the point of the post and personally attacking the OP in order to completely derail to topic.

Nothing wrong with Australia except that they use the metric system and drive on the wrong side of the road.

I am an American living in Sydney, btw.
    DLR, circa 2001:

"Hey this is David Lee Roth and I promised you the news and here's the news.

About a year ago myself and the great Van Halen band played together once or twice and it sounded amazing!

In the following several months Edward and I, Edward Van Halen and me, David Lee Roth, created some of the most amazing, phenomenal - the hands fell off the clock ladies and gentleman and we wrote three astonishing tunes.

That was last July (2000) and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note - I'm ready to go.

And I am positive for the future ladies and gentleman.

Stay tuned and I'll tell you what the future brings..."

Oh, you mean on the VH III tour. That definitely is seeing VH live. My bad.

I didn't miss the point of your cute little thread. I found it lacking and rudimentary, since essentially you are comparing the state of Ed's physical appearance to some kind of band-potential possibility. For all you know the man's burning up on the inside. I'm just throwing in my opinion on your posts, as you so often do mine. What's good for the goose and all that Vegemite. Tell u what, I'll make you a deal, you ignore me and I'll ignore you. Does that sound like a good plan? Let me know.
