    Default Worst Guitar Tone

I know we here at the Guitar Room love to talk tone, so I was interested in knowing what you guys think are the worst guitar tones... EVER!!! Videos or clips would be perfect for this so we can all hear the badness.

Paul Gilbert is a cool guy and all and he is a good player but I think his tone I personally don't like his tone.

    WHAAAAAA??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!???!?!?!?!?!?!??

Just kidding. Paul's one of my favorite guitarists, but I gotta admit, his tone isn't my favorite at all. I tend to think his playing kinda makes up for it.

It's gone through several incarnations and is greatly improved now that he's with Marshall.

God! Here come the pitchforks!!!! Randy Rhoads' tone on Crazy Train.
Also, Love his playing, and it is'nt a constant, but alot of Jeff Beck's tone leaves some to be desired. Alot of this I realize differed from pressing to pressing when on vinyl, so I was really looking forward to hearing how Blizzard would sound on the remastered edition CD, and it still sounded like it was recorded underwater. Just no real dynamics. Same as some of Beck's Stuff. Flash is still crap sounding, as is Wired. Wired has some real cool licks though, and the interaction on the tunes was killer. Just not captured very well IMO. There's alot of modern players though that just drive me nuts. Their tone is sooooo fucking artificial, and processed. Could'nt even tell you the names of 'em cause I can't be bothered to find out, but you know the ones I'm talkin' bout'. All the Green Day, Blink 182 rip off "Suedo punker posers.
She looks so $#@!'n good ,so sexy and so frail....Somethin's got the bite on me, I'm goin' straight to Hell.

I didn't know it was possible for someone to make a space-suit look skinny.

Paul rips. I think my fingers would fall off at 1/10 that speed. Whew.

I also think that Jimmy Page's live tone and playing always was weak. His playing really affected the tone during the later years.

Wow dude. I respectfully disagree with you totally. Page isn't a shredder but always weak live?..and Page's live tone should be considered amongst the worst ever? You ok? lol

I'm sorry but that's what this thread is for. In the later years I think Page had a terrible live tone much to the blame of his poor playing. IMO.

No need to be sorry. You have a right to your opinion. I just don't agree, at all.
I know his playing was often sloppy and increasingly so when he was on smack etc but I don't think his tone ever suffered that bad because of it. I missed him live with Zep but many of the boots and the official live stuff sounds fantastic. His tone and chops were also great with the firm, page solo live and page plant which I did see.

We can agree to disagree, I was just stunned that Page would be mentioned in a topic about worst tone.

Hey I love ZEP and I love Page. I just think that more often than not, live, he was pretty sloppy. Being that he often used a cleaner tone many of his mistakes were QUITE evident.

And sorry if I came off like a dick in my last post, man.

Some bloke I play with has some G'd awful tone- An Ibanez whatever with a Crate Modeling amp: great playing, uninspiring and downright heinous tone. I have to finally tell him he needs to try something else, as his bad tone is getting on my nerves...

    Least favorite tones of mine;

    1) Randy Rhoads
    2) Joe Satriani on the Chickenfoot cd...there was no high end, there was a lot of mush
    3) Eddie on 5150(the album), however his live tone during that era just screams
Eddie and Dave...the way it was meant to be

I disagree with Satch and Eddie's tones. On tunes like My Kinda of Girl and Sexy Little Thing I don't see how the "no high end" argument applies.

But and I'm sure this will be said A LOT in this thread (Hell it already has)...TO each their own

well, i think Pauls tone on that video sounds great sooo.

funny though, my fav guitar player is vai, and I love his tone from pashion and warfare on... but I think his tone on the roth solo CD's sucks.

I also dont care much for the Dio solo albums, what his name from def lep...ummm vivian cample, although I think the production of the CD's in both these cases may really be more the issue.

I love live music so much, I dont really care if its perfect tone, so I dont pay that close attention.
