Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming
Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming have landed lead roles in Broadway's upcoming Spider-Man musical.

In Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, Wood — who crooned Beatles tunes in Across the Universe — will play Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's mild-mannered love interest.

Tony Award winner Cumming (Cabaret), meanwhile, will go bad as Norman Osborn/the Green Goblin.

Kirsten Dunst and Willem Dafoe played the characters in the big-screen Spider-Man.

The casting of Peter/Spidey will be announced "very soon," the show's producers said in a statement.

Broadway's take on the webslinger begins previews Feb. 17, 2010, at the Hilton Theater. Music and Lyrics are by Bono and the Edge, and two-time Tony winner Julie Taymor (The Lion King) will direct.

You know, I love a good comic book/ comic book movie as much as the next person, but I can't bring myself to think this is in any way shape or form appealing.

Indeed. Spidey was and still is my personal top dog of the comic page. Loved all the flicks and even still like that horrid no-budget TV series that lasted for half a dozen episodes in the 70's.

But whenever I hear the word "the musical" applied to an established IP now....god I pray there's still piece of Skylab still floatin' around up there with my name on it.

Just the thought of a "comic book musical" makes me want to laugh hysterically. I mean really, is Peter Parker going to sing of his unrequited love for MJ? And I am trying to imagine the villanous musical renderings of Osbourne. And somehow all that comes to me is Elmer Fudd singing "Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit!"

hey, they've made musicals about everything else...so why not Spiderman.

A lot of talk goes on about Hollywood having run out of ideas and just remaking movies from the past but Broadway has somehow managed to fly under everyone's radar.

Think about it...if they're not regurgitating old musicals for another run, they are taking ideas from hollywood and disney. We've had The Wedding Singer, 9-5 and so on and we've had all the major disney flicks. Is it any surprise that they've moved onto comics?
    Stay out of it, dude.

Probably won't be any dumber than this...

So I should expect a musical Batman and X-Men soon?

It is not an understatement to say that if a person ate a bowl of alphabet soup, they would shit better lyrics. -lmr5150 on Up For Breakfast

Give him the "secret devil sign", stick out your tongue and hiss like a demon while bellowing out THE DARKNESS WILL ENVELOPE THY SOUL AND FEAST OF THY FLESH, INFIDEL!!!!! Then gouge a pentagram in your forehead with a nail file. -LowLifeFlatHeadScum

A recent study shows 92% of the teenage population likes rap music. If you are part of the 8% who listen to real music, put this as your sig.
