    Van Halen Heartbroken Over Jackson
Posted Jun 25th 2009 9:30PM by TMZ Staff

He provided the rock guitar solo in Jackson's hit song "Beat It." TMZ has just heard from Eddie Van Halen on Michael Jackson's death:

"I am really shocked; as I'm sure the world is, to hear the news. I had the pleasure of working with Michael on 'Beat It' back in '83 -- one of my fondest memories in my career.

Michael will be missed and may he rest in peace."

This is is the first I've heard from VH on MJ's passing. Nice words from Ed and cool he spoke up so quickly.

hard to believe it was more than 25 years ago they worked together on Beat It. Paved the way for his later work with Slash and Steve Stevens...

Not sure the length of time but I do know he showed up to play the solo at a couple of the live Jackson's concerts. You can find them on Youtube pretty easily.

Four years ago, we would probably never have gotten a response so this is nice that he replied.

If you find those vids, Eddie is definitely very loose. Not a great performance because its nothing like the solo in the song.

However that solo is definitely in my top 5 of all time. I remember hearing it on a bus going to middle school and just got into guitar. I just had gotten into Randy and I heard that and went "wow"

That was a touching statement. Weird to think about now, but considering Ed is getting married tomorrow MJ's death will probably be one of those things he will always associate with his wedding day and anniversaries.

If they aren't true, I seriously apologize for what I'm about to say. But if any allegations against this man and children are true then he was a piece of shit.

Agreed! And if he was guilty, I think the parents of those kids should've hung him up by his balls.....but, we'll never know.........................
